Random Sonic thoughts of the day & Reviews.

Yeah yeah I know... Yet another blog with me talking about mostly Sonic related subjects. :p
I am not quite sure why it is... but I really like MetalSonic, His design is just so superb and he is a real epic bad dude, He has easily became my 3rd favorite Sonic character... On that note I think my top 5 currently are...
#1 is Sonic.
#2 is Dr.Eggman.
#3 is MetalSonic.
#4 is Blaze.
#5 is Tails.
As a note I like most of these 5 nearly to the same degree, so the numbers don't mean much.
However I'm not really fond of MetalSonic's Sonic-Heroes design, the design was awful IMHO. I prefer his standard modern or classic design personally... I wonder what he'll look like on Sonic Boom? Well on 1 of the 3DS version trailers somebody spotted what looked like a moment of him real quick, he seemed to look mostly the same but it was hard to tell.
Speaking of SonicBoom... the Boom games still look kinda lame to me, I still might pass on getting them. Also lots of early opinions from other people who tried the demos said it's not very good and their reasons why seemed pretty reasonable to me this time. Also at this point it's very clear that they are just tie-in games for the TV-show and should be looked at as such.
The TV show still looks like great fun to me, and for the moment many fans agree. Some fans I can tell are disappointed that the show is just a random comedy and is not the more serious drama that they wanted... But really that's those fans own fault for building self-entitled opinions for what they believe the series should or should not be. Long as it's fun I otherwise don't really care.
But I am worried if the boom games don't do well. Because we needed this, we needed a American Sonic branch, it opens up the doors to much more Sonic content and possibilities. Because in case you didn't know the classic Sonic games on the touch phones are actually remastered versions made by 2 guys and they are hinting at that if SonicBoom does well it'll open up more possibilities for the American branch... perhaps even NEW classic style Sonic games, which is something many Sonic fans have been dying for ages for, Hell I know I would really enjoy new retro style sonic games myself.
Also that reminds me it annoys me when I see somebody say that all modern pixel art styles are just made for nostalgia’s sake. IMO pixel art is just as much of a art style as any other, deal with it. :T
But if Boom does poorly then Sega of Japan may see that as a sign that they were mistaken to let their American branch try anything and cut them off later... Not good if that happens just to tell you. But since they may only have 1 shot with this... I am kinda annoyed at the American branch for trying something so risky and letting a unknown game team make the games. Anyways I hope that if at least the TV show does well that Sega of Japan will be happy enough and let them do more stuff.
And I'm not quite sure if I made a blog on my current favorite Sonic game list and scores I give them? Oh well, here's a new list just in case to fix that!
#1: Sonic Colors-Wii. I give it a 80 out of 100.
While this game only had Sonic playable which is always a shame when it's like that, but it was otherwise a really amazing fun game to me personally and is still my current favorite Sonic game.
#2: SonicLostWorld-WiiU. I give it a 75 out of 100.
This Sonic game especially really needed some extra playable characters besides Sonic as the gameplay was really suited for it more then normal. Otherwise however I really enjoyed this game and even considered it my #1 fave for a short time. It's far from perfect but I still had a very good blast with it and replay it sometimes... Hell I even enjoy the snowball level! What can I say? I just enjoy a good game with variety. Also This game returned to a much more cartoon looking art style which is something I prefer personally...
#3: Sonic2-Genesis. I give it a 85 out of 100.
The first Sonic game I played, I'll admit it's not perfect but I can honestly say it's a super great game and I'm not just saying that out of nostalgia’s sake, Like all the main classic Sonic games it has fun levels to race across and with just a little bit of a exploring element to them, Also has pretty fun minigame levels, the special stages in Sonic2 are a bit to unforgiven IMO. The boss battles while often fun are also however a bit lacking and sometimes even quite lame. Also this is when we got our first extra playable character Tails!.
#4: Sonic3&K-Genesis. I give it a 85 out of 100.
The epic last games of the classic set, I count the 2 of them as 1 game as that is how they were originally made to be. I'm not as fond of the in-game art style in this game as I was the few before it... but it's still nice. This game has so many minigame levels which is a big plus in my book. The boss battles are little better then the other classics... but still a bit lacking. This time we have 3 playable characters. Sonic. Tails and Knuckles... Knuckles is cool n all... But I would had preferred a female character... I've never been much of a fan of guy characters often. back when I first got this game I did however still believe Tails to be a girl at that point... but that doesn't change the fact of what I know now and that I would prefer a girl character to take a more important role as part of the main group then Knuckles... And I DO NOT mean Amy.
#5: SonicCD-2011-version. I give it a 80 out of 100.
I'll be honest here and tell you I never got to play Sonic CD until much later in my life, When i first played it it was on a rom hack back around 2009 and I never bothered to complete it until I got the remastered 2011 version that I got for my PS3. It's was a really fun game no lie I gotta say. The levels had a quite a bit of variety in them. The special stages were fun for the most part but also to hard for my tastes. My opinions on the boss battles is pretty much the same as they were on the other classic games. And this game has MetalSonic in it! so + 1 in my book... However he is barely used in the whole game making it him feel a bit sadly pointless in it, and the single race battle with him is a bad joke. Classic Amy is here in the game too which is my personal favorite Amy. Just a cute 8 year old kid with a crush on a hero... Shame they had to turn her into a annoying psychopathic stalker later on.
#6: Sonic1-Genesis. I give it a 80 out of 100.
Ahh the first Sonic game... It doesn't get anymore classic then this! This game is a bit more simple then a lot of the other games which is to be expected but it's a epic fun game nevertheless. The special stages were pretty good even if a bit sickening with all that spinning after awhile. The normal levels were good like all the classics, Fun placers to race across with a tiny side element of exploration. I love the badniks in all the classic games, very cute and charming... Robotnik must have a strange artistic side and a bit of a taste for cute things... Hohooho. Also like all the classic games it had epic music that you can rehear over and over on a play list and enjoy.
#7: SonicGenerations-PS3. I give it a 80 out of 100.
This game was pretty awesome! ...Again it wasn't perfect, but I don't need a game to be perfect to enjoy it. Both the fast paced modern Sonic levels and classic Sonic levels were great fun for me. Half of the boss battles were really good and fun on this game... But the battles I didn't really like were the Chaos battle and the final battle, also the battle with Shadow was kinda strange IMO... Like the concept needed more work or something, And to many of the battles were racing battles and I feel that classic Sonic should had gotten 1 more boss battle. But that was a problem with this game in general, it was WAY to short... I know that the game being to short is a problem most Sonic games have in general but still this 1 should had been made longer IMHO... even if it was just with DLC levels which they never stupidly did.
#8: Sonic4-EP2. I give it a 70 out of 100.
Episode 2 of Sonic4 is miles better then episode 1 in my opinion. The game is far from perfect but I still liked it a lot. The absolute best part of this game was all the boss battles hands down, I'll tell you this, Dimps often knows how to do very good boss battles and are very often much better then the boss battles SonicTeam does. However when it comes to normal level design this is where Dimps fails, the normal levels here are empty and boring except for a few levels in the game that are "ok/fun enough" ... The special stages in this game are just a rip-off of Sonic2's special stages again... they are fairly easy except for 2 of them which are hell. Anyways the game has MetalSonic in it and quite a bit this time which is awesome, and fighting him is pretty fun.
#9: Sonic Unleashed-PS3. I give it a 75 out of 100.
The game was fun, even the Werehog levels to a ok degree in my opinion. I'm not a fan of the more realistic world art style they came up with during this time period as I prefer simple cartoon styles, especially with Sonic. But I did enjoy the fast paced day-time gameplay, Hell I could handle far faster to be perfectly honest, People who complained that the game is to fast are such slow mos I swear... Also the story was awful in this game IMO just to say. but the cut scenes were beautiful.
#10: Sonic Adventure-1&2. I give them both a 75 out of 100.
I loved the adventure games when they first came out... But now? Err... they are ok but not the best Sonic games IMO, I feel that they get way to much hype from the fan base. Anyways I mostly like the Chao mini pet game about these 2 games best. Otherwise out of the 2 games I prefer SA1 over 2... I feel SA2 lacked a lot of the charm that I feel a Sonic game should have and it's story was to way kiddy drama for me also I'm not fond of the world art style, I prefer much more surreal cartoony abstract styles for a world personally. SA1 was better but still quite lacking a good story IMO. It was admittedly cool to have all those playable characters even if SA2 did it poorly IMO, it also came with the cost of each character's story mode being way to short in both games. The adventure games were built with the exploring aspect as a bit more of a focus then the older games... except for SA2 which was more streamlined in gameplay then SA1. These games do make me curious what a true open-world sonic could be like... But I have my doubts SonicTeam currently would know how to do it right.
Anyways thanks for reading. See ya around~
