Group photo at Main Event
Let's try to gather for a group photo at 7pm, before folks get too spread out!
Also, please be polite and respectful to the staff and other patrons at the Main Event. If the event goes well we'd like to be welcome to come back. Indoor venues are important because suiting indoors is MUCH more comfortable than it is outside in Texas. We have pictures of the interesting purple colors Tylenn turned after a scampering around in Zilker park to prove it. :)
If you see anything going on that shouldn't be, please let Main Event security or one of us know.

(that and my suits are still en route from Anthrocon)
The silver lining to no costumes was more time to talk, at least. :)
Thanks to everyone who put up with me and my awkwardness during bowling/putt-putt. :D
Try doing a Google search for 'mask law' or 'mask ordinance' or anything similar, with or without 'Texas' as a filter. You will not find a single law on the books that mentions this. There are a few on-line questions about whether or not it is legal to wear a mask in Texas, but no one cited an actual law or ordinance, even at the city level, to that effect. There used to be a broadly-worded law against going masked in Florida, originally enacted to prevent KKK members from appearing in public in their hoods. And that law got struck down by the Supreme Court as too broad, and had to be amended to include criminal or threatening intent for it to be a crime.
So, as far as I can tell, it's just an urban legend. The only place no one can wear masks in Texas is in a bank. If they want to say it is their business location's policy not to allow masks, then fine. Their property - their rules. But they shouldn't claim they are doing it because of some law, unless they can cite the real law.
My guess as to what happened is that the manager that Tylenn and Avrin talked to had dollar signs in his/her eyes and was hoping we'd rent a private room, which would be win-win for them--more money and they'd keep the scary masks contained. Which is not how it would have worked, of course, but people tend to hear what they want to hear.
