Friday 5 PM EST was the end of the federal workweek. Monday the 19th is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and that's a federal holiday. And Tuesday the 20th is the day Obama gets sworn in.

So, for all practical purposes, the Bush administration is over. There will be a lot of people in defense and policy positions still doing their jobs, but that's about it. Bush is, technically, gone.

And good riddance...

well, comunism as a theory works, but in practice it fell because of human greed and lust for power, as well as the fact that no government can plan out the needs of a whole country. Capitalism, at least at its free market, unregulated extreme, won't work either. America isnt a pure free market, it has some government regulation. Im sure our economy will get better. may take a while, butim sure we will in a year or so

I was also just reading up on some of his executive orders..... the justice department wrote a few laws in 2007 that said the president doesn't need to follow their own executive orders, doesn't need to say when they're breaking them, and can't be overruled by the justice department.......

Yes, one can say that Big Businesses screwed things up, and they did, but he helped them along. We are in the mess we are in because he was an ineffective president who wanted to pony up to his cronies, the "Good Old Boy Network", something that happens all too much on Capitol Hill. Then we bail out those businesses?? Who is going to bail out my high mortgage??

I was listening to public radio when they were talking about the disaster he caused with the EPA. Basically, he sent a "wrecking crew" in to dismantle it from the inside out because Big Businesses wanted to destroy all the good works that the EPA has done and dig for oil in the Denali Alaskan Reserve. There was even a scientist who holed himself up (with all of his years of research work and papers) in the EPA cafeteria so they didn't destroy all his work!! My God, that sounds like "Farenheit 51!" He was waiting to hear from his lawyer what he should do. The US has almost constantly voted against any wildlife preservation in the United Nations. They felt it wasn't IMPORTANT. And WE are supposed to imitated as a "world leader?"

I have hopes that ANYONE could come into the office now and do a better job. As I was watching President-elect Obama picking his cabinet, I truly was impressed. I wish him well. It's going to take a LONG TIME just repairing the damage 4+ years have done.

Oh, well I didn't mean to say it like that when I said he was innocent of the 9-11 attacks. I was saying that because so many people said that 9-11 was a "government job". ^^;

I know. But I never thought the government was directly responsible for 9/11. They were the proximate cause, however, by arming the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan against the Soviets back in the 1980s; but they didn't know about that particular attack.

I never payed attention to him is the thing. Obama's a MUCH better speaker, and therefore has earned my paranoia.

Still, he doesn't seem like a bad person. I'm just worried about his performance and how the people will take it. If he does well, people will start thinking that only black people make good presidents, and we end up with 50 cent or someone as President. However, if he does poorly, we'll have this 'black people can't run a country' thing going on.
