WoW!... Just... WOW! :P

Was readin' a few journals... some about birthdays from various critters... most in their early ta mid 20's up ta their mid 30's... an some who comment about how soon it'll be till they reach 'Greymuzzle' status...

Which is one'a those things ya read about then get ta calculatin' jus' how long you've been in furridom...an when I researched how old furcons an furridom itself has been 'publicly' around... means that I've clocked in a good 30+ years bein' a Furry! The oldest furcon, Conference started back in '86 an that puts it at bein' 28 years old... an shoot some'a us furres've been postin' an sharin' our art at least a few years b'fore some'a those ancient furfathers finally decided ta gather t'gether an meet up at furmeets an furcons!

Hell I even r'member when some critters back then were announcin' that they were gonna be meetin' up fer furry gatherings an wishin' I could go even way back then!... An one'a the things I'd like ta think was/is my own lil' 'milestone' in furry history is that I was/am one of the first african american furries ta join furridom... an most probably THE first black man ta portray an anthro/werewolf fursona in furridom! I mean even before furres were havin' meets an furcons I r'member there were only 2 other furres in furridom at the time who were black... Max Blackrabbit an Ian Rain Soulfox an back then we would have the same reactions ta findin' out each other was black LOL "You're black?!! wow thought I was the only one!"

,,,and now here we are t'day... a fandom known world-wide with furcons easily goin' inta the 1000's an still goin' strong! An even though it makes me feel possitively ancient ta realize how long I been in furridom I can think of nothin' better I'd rather to have been an still be a part of furridom!

Heh gotta admit, same as when any 'subculture preferences' go through, it's definitely had (an continues ta have) it's ups an downs but it's certainly one of the first ta make pretty much the entire ride enjoyable an m'glad ya feel the same way :)

*meeps and murs* I've been at least tangentially part of the fandom for roughly 8 years now. I've never been a con or fursuited (I'd like to, someday though). I'm told they're fun, if anything.

yupyup they are!... An yer still young so ya got plenty'a time ta do those things but eventually ya wind up doin' sooner or later even if ya weren't that intrested in doin'em cause it's jus' TOO damn fun of a thing ta do heh... Even after years'a bein' in furridom even Uncle Kage only jus' recently finally got ballsy enough ta 'suit up' an he's been hooked ever since lol ;)

Man, how you take me back with this chat. I have not been in the fandom as long as you, but I was not far behind. How I remember discovering your work on a few sites like Furnation and YCL. Oh many that was way...way back. Some of you even had your own websites before YCL and Furnation. What a great time that was. They Yahoo took over Egroup and many of you started posting your art to many of the fur yahoo groups. Even better times. Then came along places like DA and FurAffinty. Then things took off real fast then. Fur meets and con had pop up long before the art sites, but the art sites I like to believe help to sell the cons and meets. So I think that help them out a lot.

Then I discover one of the best artist in the fandom that I been following for years and years turn out to be black. Wow, that blew my mind. I was not the only black in the fandom. I knew we were kind of rare in the fandom for when someone found out I was black it blew their minds. Oh the questions and I am sure you know what question they ask a lot. Still it has been nice to learn of a few other good artist and story tellers that are black and more fans coming to cons being black as well.

Heheh yeah Bigminobro ya came in right about the time of furry disbelief that there were any black furry artists out there... Shoot I can still' r'member havin' pics bein' taken by some fans even jus' cause they not only finally meet the artist but findin' out they were black! heh... Even got approached specifically by folks askin' fer pics tellin' me I was the 'first' black furry artist they'd ever met and/or how they'd never been even kissed by a black man... I usually comply then counter by sayin' after I'd kissed'em "Ok now that I've kissed ya let's go find ya some handsome black guy ta give ya a kiss like ya wanted!" hehehe ;)

Hahaha...now that is a good name for it. The Great Disbelief. I like that. Hehehe..yes that was the next think to come after the big question they all seem to had to ask. Man, how every time I show up at a con how I would get hit on just because I was black. That or being a graymuzzle might had help out some as well. So many younger males wanting to be seem with an older male. I know here on the west coast one just had to be 35 years or older to be one, but now it seems to have drop down to 30 yeas old. As you seem there are tons and tons of furs 18 years up to 29 years old. Then it seems to drop off some once many turn 30 or older.But that matters little to me my bigwerewolfbro, so long as we both our members of the graymuzzles is all that matters.

heheh yeah an funny thing is I think that furridoms females have gone through it (an sometimes STILL do!) of goin' through what we early-generation blacks went through... nowadays ya hardly get that "Oh yer black?!" surprised reaction like we used ta but women in furridom even still get that!... Shoot even good ol' 'Auntie Rog' still has newfurs that're surprised when they find out Rog Minotaur is a woman LOL

Yes, you are so right. I remember when I first found out that Rog Minotaur was a woman. And then a few others as well. I found myself pointing it out to a few furs now and then when they call her a he and I point out that Rog is a woman. Yes, it is hard by just names at times when the person does not tell you much about themselves for one to know for sure if one is a he or she. I am sure at some point no one will care this way or that and just enjoy being around each other.

well... originally it was meant to acknowledge someone in furridom who was 50 years or older out of respect fer their age. Most furries adore an respect our elders furres an enjoy the stories they regail us with so the 'Greymuzzles' of the time were some of the furry writers actually... no matter their chronilogical age they were some of the first most of us first graphic furry artists drew our creations from when we first drew things they described...

Now more commonly back then those writers and artists were the first 'official' 'Greymuzzles'... as the furry community grew first the age got lowered ta 40... now it seems it also depends on how many furconventions ya've been to... an I guess all descriptions are able ta qualify by any person's standards so it'll always vary from person ta person...

Personally myself as a 'furry judge' as many furcons as there are in so many places now around the world if ya had the money an free time ya can b'come a 'greymuzzle' in no time flat that way!

So ta me what qualifies as a 'Greymuzzle' by my standards is any furre who's proven themselves ta either be chronologically older'n me in RL age and/or proven they've been in furridom longer'n me! LOL

Yup!... shoot most'a us live it constantly never havin' even known there was a 'label' fer our intrests an then we finally seek out others of shared intrests an go "Oh well hell I been likin' this an doin' that since b'fore I can even r'member an jus' didn't know what it was called heh :)

While I haven't been around the conventions as long as you have, I started at the first MFF in 2000, I've still seen a tremendous amount of change and growth. It's been quite an interesting ride and I'm always curious to see what the next con will bring.

Thanks... an don't'cha go thinkin' I'm a big attendee ta lotsa furcons... quite the contrary... it'd been years even after bein' in furridom b'fore I'd gone ta m'first furcon an most of'em I've still only been to only jus' once or not at all!... I'd love ta be able ta say I've been ta at least all of the ones here an maybe even some over-seas at least once but it's likely not ta ever happen fer me heh... but I still find it a comfort to have come from the dawnin' age of furridom before we ever had furcons at all an marvel at how much we've grown :)

*grins* And I still remember you were one of the first people I watched and talked to back when I first joined! In terms of age I may be getting close to being a greymuzzle but in terms of time in the fandom, not quite. I don't think? Only been in it since '99.

Still, pretty awesome knowing some people have been around so long, and were in the fandom nearly from the start. Here's to many more years! ^_^

Hhahaha so true!... an yeah it's been so long fer me that I don't even remember the when an how of our first meetin' either!... But I DO remember that YOU were the one who took me ta goin' ta m'very first furcon!... An it wasn't even really a 'true' furcon!... Millinicon I believe it was called an it was more of a scifi convention that had just a few furry-oriented panels added to it!... After that ya took me ta the very first 'full' furcons like MFM, MFF an Anthrocon...

Gawds I r'member what a green newb nerd I was even at that first furcon... was finally able ta meet some'a the critters I'd been chattin' with fer years... like when I first saw Wookiee's table an was like WOW! This dude REALLY has an pawsome collection'a Wookiee stuffnot even realizin' it was Wookiee himself sittin' there sellin' his stuff! LOL an how Uncle Kage literally floored me the first time I met him in person LOL... aaah good times :)
