Journal Start
We've made some changes to the category system in a round of first revisions. This is part of an on-going changes that are being implemented in incremental rounds.
New Categories/Changes:
Artwork (Traditional)
Artwork (Digital) (Formerly "Digitalart")
Fursuiting (to help find your fursuing-specific pictures)
Sculpting
Crafting
New Categories for Sellers
YCH
Auctions
Adoptables
New Art Types:
My Little Pony/Brony
Ratings-Specific Themes
We have also merged the [Tame] and [Mature] categories together. This requires the modification of 12 million rows in the database. We will be modifying the Browse section to include a "Browse by Rating" category to keep the same functionality we had before, with added usability.
The reason we are making this change is to have better consistency within the site. For as many types of artwork that had a [Tame] and [Adult] variant there were as many that did not. As we will be adding many NEW types of artwork to these categories we needed to streamline them.
The search engine's index will need to be rebuilt to compensate for these changes as well. We will update this journal once that has been completed.
This is an ongoing process, and is leading up to a much bigger end result in getting things fixed and greatly improved.

Tha button itself is okay, but its position is horribly bad chosen...
Why not smack it into the Submission info header? there's plenty of unused space for new features without confusing users. :/
Or just have full view on by default?
Messing with me like crazy </3
However, this button feels more like a not-well-thought out addition that came up randomly without any thought. Which is pretty unprofessional, makes it redundant and unnecessarily confuses users.
Just my thought on the subject.
Interface design 101: Don't put multiple things within the same page that do the same thing.
There's already 2, the uploader's image and the name... you definately will never need the third.
Relevant comic strip.
All it takes is two clicks, click their icon, click gallery.
The go to gallery isn't really needed, and if you refuse i'd suggest putting it under their icon in the descrip to make it less crowded.
That won't end well.
The [Tame] and [Mature] categories were legacy items from FA's infancy. Some categories that fell into that pool, like Baby Fur, had a Baby Fur [Tame] and Baby Fur [Adult] category. You can probably imagine where that would conflict with our rules and potentially give the wrong impression to uploaders.
This is an ongoing process, and there is an end goal to it.
Honestly, it's like you're not reading the comments you're replying to.
The only truly short-sighted aspect of this change was proceeding with the merge before implementing the "Sort by Rating" functionality. Other than that, this change is really only going to affect UI and backend processes.
You go to submit an image, now instead of selecting "Mature- Fat Furs" you simply select "Fat Furs". Then you select "mature, tame, scraps" Like on DA. There is no "Mature- Traditional" category, you simply select Mature, after placing the image in Traditional.
That make more sense? This way there isn't redundancy. The images haven't been untagged as Mature, that rating is still there, and you have the advanced search option to leave out the Mature tagged artwork.
I didn't believe the others.
Can we move on?
Why?
Regardless, you need to chill the fuck out.
YOU'RE the ONLY one not getting it when multiple people are explaining it to you.
2) i'm not the only one who misread it,
The actual submission rating is a separate flag and category does not affect it in any way. Thus it makes no sense to have categories that are "tame" and "adult" when the actual "tameness" is not controlled by the selected category at all.
TL;DR
Effectively nothing changes in how FA works wrt.: maturity rating. We just have less categories now.
XD
Ur really doing a good job
See this submission for clarification: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13755298/
Basically the string representations of the attributes for species/gender/categories/submission types were changed to numbers, which are much more efficient when it comes to filtering based on their values.
I understand your hesitance on this, because it seemed like a bad idea just reading it at first. but it seems it's not as bad as it looked, so yay!
XD
:P
I know what they're saying works in THEORY... but in PRACTICE--
I'm still unsure about posting new material here. The admins have made some decisions I don't agree with, and that have hurt my confidence in their ability to run and improve this website. Yet if I decide to post on FA once again, I can say that a new interface for writing would be a welcome change. Reading a story in the browser is always more convenient for the reader. And that helps me build a better reader base. Which encourages me to use the site more.
I don't know what all is going on in the background, and I won't spread rumors. I just pray those running the site will be able to finally fulfill a lot of the promises we've been given. I can't speak for others, but it would definitely rebuild my confidence in the administration. And that's all I have to say on the matter.
one of the few UI things that was bothersome was that, so having a feature for that would be cool :3
Because, as it stands, those of us who prefer to post under "readable art" for the sake of sharing images along with our text (or just to give our audience better content info) seem to be losing our favored category. Or am I misreading the information, and the Story category will remain?
Isn't that project phoenix?
energy could be spent to either nuke-and-reboot, or to do patchups like the recent one.
Adult is for sex/sexual themes and/or loads of gore.
But being on a furry site, you're probably going to get sexual themes in both anyway.
So I am glad to see there will be a way to browse by rating and avoid seeing all the clean pictures I have no interest in.
I'm guessing the need to rebuild the index is why the categories are currently much emptier than they should be?
Mmm so hot m'laysia
-eats popcorn-
I can find elf, but no dwarf opcion.
But ok, thanks for letting me know. Didn't know it existed.
Humans are actual flesh and blood creatures right now, and as such, they are primates. Elves and dwarves are fantasy creatures, and only exist in our imaginations, and as such, belong under fantasy.
I hope that helps clear up your confusion, and helps to relieve your headache. xD
What a perfect gif for that! XDDD
That's what it looks like to me, exotic is more like a fake/fairy tale species while the others are actual animals that exist or have existed.
Just makes a lot more sense to me to do it that way
(no I do not wanna use FA filter addon, it bugs my browser very much)
Also need the grey area of Baby pokemon and digimon reviewed in adult rated pictures.
It was promised years ago!!!
The most of the sites have gallery folder.
(e.g. deviantart, sofurry, weasyl, etc.....)
It is a missing function!!!
They have promised many things.
But none of that happened!!! :(
FINALLY A CATEGORY FOR YCH. AND MLP. AND FURSUITS.
IT IS GOOD DAY.
Or at least you're programmed to think we are. @_@ (Though wouldn't "Mind Control" be more appropriate for everything?)
I've been doing a lot of stuff for it lately and I have pretty much nothing to really list it under. o_O
And why the heck mlp, pokemon, digimon and sonic are fetishes? its like saying being a furry is a fetish. They are tecnically fandoms. http://31.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l.....j9spo1_250.gif
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fi.....finity-filter/
Until FA decides to implement a filter themselves (ha).
My jimmies hurt.
THIS
also needs text viewer to read stories instead of reading them in the description
I don't know, most of this seems like a waste of time imo. I can understand adding the new categories but rearranging the order like this is only going to lead to confusion. Most of this seems like, as Prof. Umbridge would say. "Progress for progress's sake."
I hope the whole category section gets an overhaul
But diaper as fetish or next to baby fur is missing
*puts on fire suit*
Suggest a better location perhaps?
Still, I myself like the updates that are happening (though still waiting to see if the phoenix project comes to fruition), and appreciate the work you and the other coders are putting into these things.
I may not be able to say it on behalf of -everyone-, but thank you for the work you've done in keeping this site up and running.
Just little suggestions. :)
I guess to me, view gallery's more something to do with the user than the picture, so it seems out of place with the picture-centric links (along with send note, imo, but I never actually notice it)
Kind of confused on how the merge works, but I guess I'll see in time. Looking forwards to updates on the search engine in general, because I find it to be quite clunky and difficult to use.
The whole category tags really need an overhaul at this point.
(now if only other people would actually put their art in a category)
For the Tame/Mature fusion. With the ability to search by rating,
there will be no need to double categorize the categories.
tame and mature art will still exist, yes. But now they will be searched by General, Mature, and Adult
if I read that right. They aren't "fusing" the art together. They are being separated in a more convenient way.
I actually love the idea.
Especially for that with only tame and mature section, I have been conflicted as to what to
place where. Why would I need to put my mature art in a category if I already marked it as mature?
I always thought it was weird.
the square select buttons where one or more can be selected?
Go to My FA > Account Management > Profile Info. Scroll down to "User page appearance and preferences" and it's right there. Change to YES and suddenly you don't have to resize every page! This might take more bandwidth, so use with a hint of caution.
I was confused why where the location of the "go to gallery" button was an issue because I had forgotten the "full view" button even existed.
Also the new submission categories are very handy c:
Thanks for implementing that by the way !
After some thought though, the reason being is because you're putting four ratings into three.
In (tame) sections, you'd get a mix of all three three, general/mature/adult. while in the (adult) section, you'd have almost exclusively adult ratings (go figure, right?)
However, my issue is the difference between (tame) adult and (adult) adult is HUGE, and now with this change they're being forced in the same category.
I realize saying "no go back D:" is hardly a viable solution, so my suggestion is this: add a fourth rating.
I know this hardly fixes the mix that has happened now, but it'll fix the problem from this point forward, which is better than nothing.
and it's nice to know "it" has a 3 reply quota. *packs bags*
First of all, glad us bronies and related art are becoming a real category! It was somewhat strange that there was a Sonic category, whereas bronies (partly a subculture by now) weren't.
Second, I agree with merging the [Tame] and [Mature] categories. Since it makes sense for categories to address the type of art only, given that marking a submission as General or Mature is done separately... so this was only duplicating the same things.
If I am on SFW I really do not wanna see soiled diapers. I dont know how many times I have come across fetish work that is mistagged.
What you see won't be affected as long as the artist flags it correctly.
CHECK YER GOSHDARN SPELLING AND GRAMMAR!
It's harder to take news seriously when you say stuff like "this is part of an on-going changes", Mr. Bush. XP
Fan-****ing-tastic.....
I'm hoping somebody on the staff can find a way to fix this sorta thing, but If we're past testing and into live now, I'm extremely pessimistic.
your AUP revision is still not clear actually.
so think about it this way. what if you do have a photo that was taken ingame on a video game such as Forza Horizon that features furry art on cars. or a game called "Saints Row Third" or "SR4" that features furry characters including fursuit versions.
that's because it's classified as "game content" which are not allowed in FA. hence why here are MANY of those photos I said above are shown on DeviantArt. wouldn't it be not classified as such. video games are fine as long it shows as the user wants it to be. erg furry or other. which should have tags applied to it too.
FA: *changes*
Everyone: I LIKED IT THE WAY IT WAS WEHHH I HATE CHANGE!!!!
FA is painfully slow, -contain, dont feel, dont let them know.jpg-
:barf:
Fursuiting (Recreation)
Fursuiting (Craft)
Another update I have in mind is having contact information icons displayed under the avatars so members can see what contact information is shown.
But the more I think about it the more I question why species isn't just handled with user tags rather than a dropdown list which is prone to insufficiency by its very nature, considering the continual creation of fictional species or popularization of previously obscure real species, not to mention the possibility of multiple species in one image.
also, for submission types, you may have added YCH and Adoptable but what about "ref sheet"?
I was pretty happy to see the "Go to Gallery" when I viewed someones submission not but moments ago. Pretty cool.
Though I think it should come before the Full View link, because, it is sort of where the "Full View" used to be and that is confusing. lol.
But other than that. Everything seems great to me. c:
Right now it is a whole mess that shows me stuff that I don't want to see at all.
I really hope that you will have a solution fo that in the near future. ^^°
It iw relly better than the old one. Good idea!
These seem like pretty neat changes to me, but I just hope the categories on my pictures are still under the same categories regardless of getting merged/renamed :X
Example: There's a big enough difference between tasteful artistic nudity and straight up bone-each-others-pelvis-out-with-dripping-shlongs porn that neither one deserve to be classified the same as the other.
There's no telling how many images I've come across that I've told myself: "This isn't even remotely bad enough to be given a red thumbnail." It's like giving Pokemon Yellow an M rating because of IMPLIED FANTASY VIOLENCE, it's unwarranted and MFW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTNP792ykYM
ALL that has changed is that there are now no longer separate e.g. "Inflation (tame)" and "Inflation (adult)".
Oops.
I have a friend that CONSTANTLY gets shit said to them, terrible things because they are a HORROR ARTIST. I think this would do justice <3
At last people have a place to their horrible foul distributing disgusting MLP art without it effecting other equines so much.
All they got to do now separate and move the disgusting MLP shit, from the normal Horse/equine and everything will be ok.
I mean they stopped the Sonic adult stuff a while back, i don't care about that stuff but it does seem unfair.
I can't search for decent anthro equine things without those nasty things taking up 60-80% of results
Its kinda the reason why i have not done any equines artwork in few years due i can't search for an artist to do one or for decent pics to use a reference for anatomy or a pelt.
Just because you might find the art style infantile it doesn't make the art underage/cub.
But I have to agree, seperate categories (as well as filtering options) for other fandoms like TLK, Pokemon, Digimon, Sonic, MLP, whatever might be helpful. That way, people not liking that stuff won't see it, and people liking that stuff most probably won't see much hate either. Would be win/win for everyone.
I know a lot of the old stuff is going to stay where it is, but if most of the new art is posted in that new category that'd definitely help out a lot.
The older stuff, i think the Mods WILL HAVE to go around and manually put those under. Its their job to keep things up to date right?
It does feel like they are building a dodgey/fragile foundation,
Programming is like that from my experience, you fix one and two bugs appear, you them then tweak something a bit, then it goes a bit pear shaped.
The only approach atm is to maintain the site for now while adding tweaks until their new design is done.
Hopefully that new project on rebuilding site does go well and has a solid base to it.
Take one down
Patch it around
117 bugs in the code on the wall
You get everything working, add a new part, tweak it, and it conflicts with other stuff and breaks everything you've already done and finished.
so you have now have to tweak or redo the old stuff around the new you have put in, modify the new stuff you've put in to match the existing content.
It can be long at times.
A lot of people over time have said that FA needs more "capable" staff that help out. No use having staff that can not help in other areas.
I think it should be put under GENERAL THINGS, were as it is "GENERAL Furry Art"
We have also merged the [Tame] and [Mature] categories together. This requires the modification of 12 million rows in the database. We will be modifying the Browse section to include a "Browse by Rating" category to keep the same functionality we had before, with added usability.
Okay, that works.
Conversation from earlier this morning:
"When you Browse, there used to be a list of "Tame" categories and one of "Adult". So you could, for instance, browse "Fat Furs: Tame" and not have to deal with a screen fulla weiners. That appears to have changed. I will have to look it over when I get home."
"but now the dongs are raining down on you like those twirly seeds from a tree"
"Like the tolling of a bell: DONG. DONG. DONG."
"It's like driving through Oregon: gigantic logs by the truckload and gaping caverns large enough to hold a hundred sea lions."
That and new species listings would be a good idea.
Shouldn't it be on top, by using logic? =P
1. The old system used to be where you can search such as if i was going to. (browse, category, fetish MLP,anthro ect., tame, adult ect.) instead now it's (browse, category, fetish ect.)
it would be better to leave the old system to where you can keep the adult rating ones from the tame rating ones.
anyone agree?
By the sound of it, there'll still be the functionality to search/browse a specific category with a specific rating, just like it is now; it's just done differently.
Am I wrong?
That make sense to you? Didn't think so.
As for the placement of the button, yeah, that part is annoying, but I am glad they added it at least.
And as for the merging thing, they are not merging the submission ratings together, those will be left alone. They are saying, under the categories when you submit it, instead of having a choice between: Sonic[Tame], Sonic[Mature], Sonic[Adult], you will instead have: Sonic[Tame], Sonic[Adult]
The submission ratings aren't changing, the submission categories are.
I'd say this makes browsing a bit faster.
Yes,
This
one
I want armadillos on species category so badly.
Also anteaters, pangolins, sloths and aardvarks,
and elephants too, plus separate ocras from other whales.
Thank you FINALLY YAY THANK YOU.
*clicks view gallery everytime instead of fullview* XD ahh you guys get me every time
Wait, wha?! That's like merging Bambi and Meet the Fockers under a G rating. Of course, there are vastly more tame and adult pics than mature pics. The two primary types of artists on FA tend to draw regular art and porn. However, porn (which is where you typically will find the adult ratings) is not the same as mature, which is a tag typically used by the other demographic (the regular artists) to represent works that shouldn't be seen by an immature audience, but at the same time, isn't porn. At the very least, you should have taken that in the reverse direction (mergin mature and adult, not mature and tame). Well, what's done is done - just don't blame users for listing nudity under tame art when you changed the tag, not them.
The submission ratings aren't changing, the submission categories are.
No, we'll have 'Sonic' and everything will be there, from the most bizarre fetishes to stock art
Good luck finding anything you want
But honestly, it will be something like: Furry Art[Tame], Furry Art[Adult]
They are only merging mature and tame, nothing more. So your most bizarre fetishes will still fall under Adult, and you will be able to screen them out. Also, they said that they will be adding in a filter so that you can filter certain ratings. The submission ratings will still be in place.
It was bad enough having to look through NON-MATURE, BADLY DRAWN art in the MATURE section of muscle, macro and hyper but now I gotta shift through ALL NON-MATURE and MATURE work all together?
This will screw up mature-only searchers like myself.
Or maybe I'm just really tolerant of very minor inconveniences.
Either way this is a simple case of change NOT being good and screwing others over a "simple" thing. That's like going to KFC, finding out they added a NEW ingredient to the recipe and only HALF the people like it but they still keep it. (weird metaphor but I hope you see the point)
What would be hella nice is if they could implement a blacklisting feature in the browsing engine that let you block certain categories/species/genders/whatever. I don't think anyone would complain about that being added.
For the SEARCH to work, it requires the artist to have correctly TAGGED their stupid post. Most of the time they do not. This site is pathetic for tagging; and on some images is even a joke.
That goes with all websites that allow users to tag their own uploads, to be honest. Even with the websites that require tagging, it's very easy to slap on a couple words such as the animal and your username and call it good.
E621 and SoFurry have tagging systems that beat most I've seen hands down; probably because it's a community effort. To boot, SF has the "verified" tags and "unknown" tags too~
Mixing the two babyfur groups is really, really, really unfortunate without adding a category like this...
GIVE US FOLDERS!!
What does consistency matter? Is having two categories destroying the servers?
I know I don't want to have to sift through pages and pages of G-rated nonsense to get to the good stuff, as if it wasn't hard to come by as it is
And they do enforce miscategorization, someone just has to report it and it'll get fixed in 2-3 weeks
EVERYBODY RUN!!!
My Little Pony/Brony"
Well, this update has something for everyone, thankies~!
~CD
Who really thought it was a good idea to merge Tame + Mature? :| I already know a fair bit of users tend to mark porn as mature and not adult because "it's not erect." :|||||
Sometimes I just want to search for tame results. :|;;
Not thinking this is a good idea in the slightest.
The other half is filtering for clean, mature & adult. But I presume this feature won't be around for another fuckin' month or two; judging from FA's update history. :I
I'm not in for the merging of tame and mature... What if I want to search only for adult stuff on some categories? xD Stupid search can't do categories!
So art tagged with those categories won't show up on their homepage, or even notifications from artists they watch.
I know that's asking a lot and is probably unrealistic, but that seems like the best option right now so both artists and watchers can be happy.
Shouldn't that be under the General Things stuff?
I worry about that too v.v
It doesn't matter who might see, it's about enjoying a site free of borderline pornography.
Why bother even having my filter on if I'm subjected to peoples' envelope-pushing icons and improper rated submissions?
The only people complaining about the slashed category name are those unlikely to ever use it, so it's moot anyway. Doesn't change any functionality... and I have an image to reclassify now that I think of it.
I also would like to suggest better support for sequences and possibly versions. The way previous/next work now is weird and not always used properly or at all. In the future that would be a nice thing to have.
I'm sure sorting by rating will help out greatly though,
But in the future could you let everyone know in advance of such changes.
:I
Some of us want to browse 'Safely' in the company of others you know. You've essentially made your SFW mode broken.
And being able to reply to shouts on ones own page would be neat... i hate going to other peoples pages to thank them? Itd be easier to reply :O
ONE MORE OOOH!!!!!!!!!!!! to be able to disable what we watch certain artists for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE some peoples arts and all that but i hate how often the post journals :C
Their "plan" is to add a filter for clean/mature/adult to the browsing, but we all know with FA's fucked up history it'll probably take at minimum 3 months for this to even remotely be possible of implementing.
Also, I'm equally not ashamed to say I only come here for the smut! :D I do enjoy a bit'f well drawn clean art once in a while.. but all of the smut! >:D lol
However.
* Why is it called "General Things" under Submission Themes? "Things" is sorta meh. Why not "General Themes" or just "General"?
* Secondly, in Submission themes again, why is "General Furry Art" under Fetish/ Specialty? Shouldn't you..... I dunno..... put that under General Things? :V
* Next, Fur Suiting in both Submission Category and Submission Theme is a bit strange. Is there a reason for this? Unless it is to mix and match with fetish stuff? Only because you could go Photography > Fursuits / Crafting > Fursuits / Artwork > Fursuits (sketches and planning and such). Or is fursuiting in Submission Category supposed to be Fursuit making?
* "Readable Art" uh...... "Literature" may be better for this? It could be Visual / Literature / Audio - we all know it's art.
* "Other Stuff" maybe go with just "Other"?
Just a few things that I noticed.
Also, will the Gender section be getting more options and a clean up? It would be nice to see non-binary, agender, and intersex for instance (and there may be more out there that people would like to see). Even androgynous would be pretty nice.
Lastly, how will old submissions we dealt with with the new category changes? Will they be updated automatically or will artists have to change them manually?
WHAT HAPPENED TO SPECIES APPLE?
*sarcasm*
All nipples mature or no nipples mature, pick one. :/
Male nipples are just as offensive as female ones, any sexy topless picture is taboo to be in the SFW.
Also will rape art be banned from being posted like cub-porn? It's illegal just like female nipples being general, and kids being raped. I don't see why not.
Similar argument as to why furry porn is legal but bestial porn (in some jurisdictions) is not: if you're getting it on with a creature which doesn't exist, like a unicorn or an anthro furry, it's hard to connect this to an actual crime in the real world.
Society has made an exception to the real/unreal rule when it comes to children, in that it is illegal to involve a child in sexual activity, to photograph such an act, or to sell those photos; and to own such photographs, which I can understand as a way of choking off the market for those photos and removing what is apparently a significant financial incentive - though I doubt that money is what drives most pedophiles; and even to make an original drawing of a child sex act available to others.
That's where I begin to have problems with the law, because it is one tiny step away from criminalizing thought, and that's WAY too fascist for me. Criminalizing cub porn is even harder to understand; I guess the argument is that you were thinking of a human child when you drew the picture, and others may think of a child when they view it. If you want the government out of your bedroom and your body, you might also want to keep it out of your head.
That being said, FA has to follow the laws as they currently stand; they have neither the time nor the resources to be the Larry Flynt of the furry fandom, and challenge the government over issues of censorship of thought. But if you want to know why furry rape images aren't likely to be banned - that's why.
Not sure if it's a glitch or anything, but thought you might like to be aware, despite it being relatively insignificant.
No 'taur or centaur category for species.
I liked the tame vs non-tame distinction. Didn't change my viewing preferences, but it is nice distinction to have for those who want it.
I guess if you don't like it. Do it yourself...
<complaint mode off>
all the pictures and stuff don't have any names underthem anymore since this update, and I can't find any option to change them in settings D:
Guess I must of accidentally clicked on it on some point. just had to happen around when they did the update.. so I thought it was related to that :v
i can no longer browse safely in public anymore even with sfw on!!!! because people are too incompetent to tag properly!
In retro, they have to find a way to get around lazy artist before this change can be found, effective. I'm a businessman and this sounds like they are just biding time to "try" something different, taking ideas from others sites to patch in and say, "update". It's like buying a brand new car and instead of giving you scheduled oil change, they replace the whole the engine at the dealer. Same Car, same engine, no gain in performance.
There are other much more in important things than category mergers and added options, like a text viewer for us writers. Blacklist tags so you don't have to see all the crap you don't want to see that is category by-passed by lazy artist when give a one word or one sentence or nothing for a description. I can't tell you how many times I'm looking for bondage art and I come across one fur giving another a cleveland steamer. Nasty!
A bit annoyed that you've actually bothered to add 'Bronies' and various other mythological creature and yet Minotaurs still have no category for itself. =\
Any plans to add a "Pegasus" category? I don't draw my pegasus characters as much as I used to, but I feel it's kinda dopey to just label them "Horse", especially when there is a "Unicorn" category. Maybe make an equine category with subcategories like bovids, canines, felines, etc. You could merge the other equine species in there as well for a one-stop thing.
Now if you were to do a browse by rating, how will you solve the issue if I wanted to search by only tame and mature OR only by Mature and tame, perhaps I wanted to do only Tame and Adult. This would not only give greater useability and funtionality but better covenience, control over search results, but also playability. Yes playability..
What fa should do is have a study group and have a QA team dedicated to actrually tell you what is and isn't a bad idea and what will and will not work when you think you are stream lining your website and you end up just making it worse. And this group of people should be from your user group not your development team.
Also website mockups. Every time I ever see a revision you revise with out ever showing a wirefram of the new features or a mock-up when ever you do change the UI of the website. By doing this, it not only shows what you have planed but allows instant feedback from your users to test and see if they are comforable with the usability and functionality of your site.
Just my two cents from someone who develops interactive software for a living.
If more people used SF or IB, I'd abandon this retarded website with its fucked up admins. But alas, too many artists still post stuff here.
Because they still network with others and work with others through the site because it is the largest way to connect with other. The developers for the site (NOT ADMINS: There is a diffrence between a developer and Administrator) Should work with the community and form a network, not a hierarchy, and work with the users to help the site grow.
The key though is to work with the admins. Think of the admins like the publisher, they get the final say on everything. The developer has to work around the publisher/admin to fit their visions for the site. What they should do is abandon their own visions and work off of the users instead to maximise the total networking capibilities an usage of the site.
We aren't in the 90's anymore. The world have went viral with social media and social networks, if fa finally realizes that. They can create a site everyone enjoys.
Just my 2 cents, from someone who develops interactive software for a living.
My guesses are:
They are still developing and pushing what ever they can complete to the site.
They know if they were to push in packages, this could mean a longer down time than a short down time when ever they do push newer versions of the site.
They don't see that this means more down time over all because of the countless revisions they may have to do to enable functionality to their site as other methods may conflict due to the lack of everything being pushed at once and they do see this means more down times at higher peak hours of their website.
Just my 2cents, From a person that develops interactive software for a living.
Rodent - Rat
Rat
It makes no sense that they both appear
Also I always thought it weird that Cellshading has its own submission category because it doesn't seem significantly different from digital or traditional to be considered its own category. But maybe that's just me.
And while I'm at it, I might mention that for the species list, shouldn't skunks be grouped with the mustelids as Mustelid - Skunk. And crows should similarly be a subsection of corvids.
But anyway, Ref Sheets and Con Badges.
The bronies also have an easier time sorting their work and finding their work. Everyone's happy.
Does this means that my vore artwork is now "tame" and I need to move it all to adult?
If that is true, give me a break or a tool to mass categorize/edit before being warned or punished for not following the ToS about ratings. I have over 1800 from whom more than 75% are vore, and I dont have the time nor the patience to go through each one of them to tag em accordingly.
That would be nice also to have for stuff like comic pages. When you upload in small batches, using the dropdown list to choose something (vore) becomes not only annoying but super slow. It would be way better to upload everything and then to apply categories/tags together.
The rating system (general, mature, adult) is the same. the only change is tame and mature themes are gone, so their are no more pokemon [tame] and pokemon [mature] just pokemon sorted by the rating system when or if it gets added.
Speaking of: Will category sorting now be mandatory? I've always ignored it, most of the people I watch ignore it. I guess if categories actually make sense now, using it would not be so bad.
as for the complaining; I LOVE THE NEW STUFF!!!!! for a while it will be annoying but once they get the adult/tame filter running it's going to be so much easier!! not only can you now filter through categories better but now that one can look up (lets say) 'all' with a 'adult' rating people can browse the entire flood of 'adult' artwork without being limited by categories that one would have to regularly switch between to use!! not only that but "merging" the tame and adult ratings really cleans things up!! and they are not merging anything really, they used to decipher between categories and then check each works content rating then the categories were split between category 1 (clean) and category 1 (unclean) by not do ing this anymore new content can be faster organised to cut down on the times where artwork may not appear correctly or may be extra slow to cache on days where FA's submissions are being overloaded!!
This is a great thing and people are just jumping on the field mouse on this one. one has to be careful before one jumps or it may not be what you thought it was! it may be a fellow kitten or maybe a snake you pounced on!
...I mean -- YAY! FINALLY!!

the adult and the tame was good..because people tag stuff with multiple tags and ya know maybe baby furs and scat porn are not a thing you wona see..maybe a blacklist set up would be better ya know like E621.net at least there you can type what you wona see and not have all the stuff you blacklisted pop up
I think the reason they added the MLP/brony tab was because a percentage of the userbase wanted to be able to more quickly separate their interests from the rest, and the remaining percentage really didn't want that stuff filtering into the things they were looking for. That's why it's a subject tag rather than a species tag.
Makes me wonder,
Is the Phoenix project still going to happen?
If it's not a bug, and this was done on purpose, well...why am I not surprised.
But not surprising coming from here.
For example, a mass-upload of 20 or 30 crayon drawings of Marge Simpson that seem to clog up the "bondage" category about once a month?
I sincerely hope this problem is at least NEAR the top of the list of bugs to be fixed.
I do not understand lol
And there is nothing wrong with offering advice.
But in the end if things that people don't like aren't getting fixed, then there isn't much that can be said or done.
It's a free website that the people who run it have put up for public use.
We don't have to like it.
We also don't have to use it.
It's more of a "hey here is this thing we made. Enjoy!"
In short.
Critique: good and fine!
Getting mad at a furry site: bad!
My Little Pony/Brony"
I...I just can't explain how much I love you ;o;
*Epic tears of joy*
It kept spamming the horse category. In my oppinion it just didn't fit in at all.
>>>> ALARM-ALARM-ALARM!!! <<<<
There's been some MAJOR borkage with Sphinx, FA's search engine.
For whatever reason, changes to categories seem to have made all poetry on FA UNSEARCHABLE.
Any query string, to search for poetry in any way: Zero results. Oddly, all poetry is still
accessible through Browse.
According to Browse, there are 39,164 poems posted to FA (nothing's been deleted). But
they are not accessible through Search. Negative good...
Possible theory: Something's fubar with how Sphinx updates it's index structure. Several new
poems have been posted over the past few days. They appear in a search on the day posted.
They don't appear the next day.
HAALLPPP??!!!
(Alarm ends. You may now return to your regularly scheduled panic. :- ) )
and don't listen to the guy under.
We say the truth , so It may be possible that he's the hypocrite butthurt trying to blame the others instead.
nevermind , you didn't even spoke a word to him...
Plus , it confirms what I said lol.
also add a gore and stuff section.
Also what the hell is it with your 'staff' taking ages to handle a trouble ticket for art theft on site? It's coming off as you guys not paying any attention at all.
Just a thought!
