I'm on brand name AndroGel. It should cost around $350 for a 2 month supply but my insurance knocks it down to $35. I have one of the most expensive but reliable options.
My boyfriend was on the shots and I think he paid $75 per month out of pocket.
Talking with an endocrinologist is a REALLY good idea. Mine suggested a slow starting dose and gradually raised it so that I wouldn't go through puberty AND menopause all at once (something I'm sure you're looking forward to ;D). I was on patches awhile before it started to give me rashes (a rare side effect) before switching me to gel.
Alcohol based gels are more effective than a cream based gel also.
