Late Night Philosophical Scribbles: Defining Vore

Hey guys, just a quick little update, I will be offering certain kinds of commissions relatively soon! Though maybe not what you think so don't go writing up that lengthy detailed commission note yet ;3
(it's sorta of a way to get me back into the groove of commissioning without overwhelming myself cus I kinda lost that juju quite a while back)
I'll Probably be ready for this special commission thing I got planned after Megaplex this weekend (look for me there :D)
As for this journal entry, well it was late at night and I had this sudden urge to right down thoughts that came to my head.
So I apologize in advance for the bad grammar and spelling and everything literature based. Bellow are scribbles, ramblings in my head that I only brazingly went over and refined.
But I figured it was interesting enough to share. Or I could just be crazy and a bit loony XD I dunnuh maybe I'm just too sleep deprived, excuse me while I go nom these sheep which insist on jumping over my bed!
The Id, the Ego, and the Super Ego of Vore.
Vore, at its core, is domination and submission. It’s nature at its most primal taking with it the need to take life in order to survive. The very circle of life laid bare. We fantasize and take from this base core and add to it certain likes and feelings to better hone in on an aspect we enjoy. This allows us to enjoy this base desire without giving into it completely.
We all hold in us base desires (our Id) and we all have to take life in some form or fashion to survive, or to dominate another in order to survive (that person has x resource or something I need to survive? If we can’t both have it in sufficient quantities that I wont fear for my survival, than either that person has it and I die, or I have it and he dies) this can be food, water, shelter, anything basic to our survival (though people have taken this very urge and extrapolated it many folds such as the want for more land and more space and wealth and power and resources well beyond their basic need, which all leads to ultimately a gross gluttony and buffer to survive and reproduce easily. The more X you have the easier to survive after all. Another simpler example is the want for more wealth. More money nowadays means more options to obtain resources since the usual direct method of taking and violence and force is met with usually overwhelmingly unfavorable and anti-survivable measures to protect those very resources. This is why we live in societies with rules and laws afterall, so no one person can unexpectedly monopolize on those resources).
Vore, in a way, helps explore this base animalistic emotion that every animal on the planet has. It then hones it through many lenses to better target and accentuate another aspect in our lives. That’s why vore tends to have a little bit of every fetish in it, because it’s a general urge, one of the basic needs of our Id, and then to explore this Id in a more safer environment, we might add on some faculties to tame the Id. Think of your Id as a rabid animal fresh from the wilds all but the most basic needs on its mind. It wants to eat, it wants to sleep, it wants to fuck and reproduce. It wants to feel good and to keep surviving. But, the super ego is that voice of reason, that tells you when to pull the leash back. Vore is a way to better understand one of the basic core faculties of our id without letting it… for a lack of a better word, consume us. We throw it a few scraps and see how it reacts. It’s a way to observe and understand ourselves. Porn and fetishes in general are a safe environment for us to explore our Id without consequence and to feed it a few scraps to quell certain desires. Certain people prefer not to get too close or primal with their id, for fear it could bite the hand that feeds and get loose. After all, we’re sophisticated beings that value life and morals, we don’t want a selfish, survivalist for itself beast to get loose and cause mayhem! But we all have a super ego that helps tell us (our ego, our conscious decision making) if we should listen to our id or not, or maybe find a compromise.
Voreaphiles on a whole do not have the urge to actually eat sentient people, but every human being has the urge to dominate life (because if we control the life around us we control the very resources that help us survive!). This is something all humans have and this urge should be tamed but (to this philosophers beliefs) should not be thrown away. It is apart of us and we should come to understand it. Dismissing any part of our being only compromises understanding our true selves. The Id, this beast, is apart of us, an integral part of us, maybe the most important as it holds the key aspect to our very life: the want to live above all else. Its from this love of our own life that our morals and ethics have extrapolated an empathy and understanding for all life, and with that has flourished universes of thought and imagination that we express through Art!
So I ask, Is it better than to put it down and to kill our want of life? The very thing that constitutes our survival; through empathy and understanding of this want, that we base our morals, ethics, and emotions on? Or is it better to teach it, to mold it, to tame the beast, to become intimate with it and to better understand our base desires so we might better understand the world around us?
Empathy is a powerful thing. Cus once you experience something, you can make educated reasoning on how other people might experience it.
“Know Thyself” a Greek philosophy. For once you know yourself, you can know the world!
Plus, vore is just fucking hott. Deal with it :P
((let me know your thoughts! Would be cool to get a sort of think tank going on vore philosophy. Just be cool guys, no attacking or insulting others beliefs or getting angry at each other for whatever in the comments))

Already we're off on a bad foot because those are sentiments that may apply to what vore is to some voraphiles, but not at all what vore is to other voraphiles. To talk about "vore, at its core" sounds like you're making a statement that applies to vore generally rather than what vore is to you specifically and personally, but the latter is what this is. The mapping you describe between vorish symbolism and how you relate to it is neat and interesting, but not universal to vores.
That said, though, it's neat to get this peek into your thinking.
That whole thing.
I'm going to focus on this excerpt, which as far as I can tell is the core of the argument:
"Vore, at its core, is domination and submission. It’s nature at its most primal taking with it the need to take life in order to survive. ... we all have to take life in some form or fashion to survive, or to dominate another in order to survive ... Vore, in a way, helps explore this base animalistic emotion that every animal on the planet has ... That’s why vore tends to have a little bit of every fetish in it, because it’s a general urge, one of the basic needs of our Id, and then to explore this Id in a more safer environment, we might add on some faculties to tame the Id. ... Vore is a way to better understand one of the basic core faculties of our id without letting it… for a lack of a better word, consume us ... every human being has the urge to dominate life"
So, issues:
This analysis ignores all vore that is not rooted in the predator's perspective. Suggesting that the vore-interest flows from the 'general urge' that 'every animal ... has' to 'dominate ... in order to survive' ignores prey-identifying voraphiles completely, as well as failing to account for vores who identify with neither the predator nor the prey, but enjoy vore as e.g. an imperilment scenario, neither of which is a "basic need of [humans'] Id".
Even if we just assume that prey-voraphiles have the urge to be on the receiving side of the urge you have described, there are so many common vorish situations that this thesis does not cover that it is hard to accept for the purpose of "Defining Vore". Where do nonsentient (e.g. inanimate or non-intelligent-plant) predators fit into this vision of vore-as-domination, when they have no will to express at all? (Doubly so when the predator is both inanimate and harmless!) What about scenarios like harmless-unbirth, which is an example of the 'cuddly intimacy kind' of vore that does not appropriate or subvert the motifs used by fatal vore?
Moreover, what about vore in which the dominant/submissive categorization does not match the predator/prey categorization? If, as in your opening sentence, vore IS D/s, this should not be flexible-- but you do not have to look far for examples in which either the prey is the dominant, or the predator is an unaware-predator and thus not able to express the urge you describe, or the vore is performed consensually in such a way that neither the predator nor the prey is exercising meaningful dominance over the other (ArchTeryx's 'Internal Massage' commisions tend to provide a good example), or vore in which the predator is completely unwilling, such as http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12385377/ . Instead, it seems that vore is flexible enough to accomodate or NOT accomodate D/s in various combinations, making them not equivalent, just easily combined.
To sum up:
The 'core component' you have identified may be applicable to some voraphiles, but it clearly does not fit all of them, and we are never well-served by writing off other peoples' interests or making them invisible by creating categorizations that fail to acknowledge them. Even just by looking for a psychological root of the vore-interest as a whole (rather than just yours), you are writing off the set of voraphiles for whom the fetish is a physical one-- for whom the desire is for the body-within-body sensation, and the situation that leads to that outcome may well just be window-dressing. I admire your desire to get down to the heart of the matter, but I'm pretty firmly convinced that there is no "base core component" to extract in the first place. Vore is not just one fetish or one interest. Vore is an overlapping set of distinct and often mutually-incompatible fetishes and interests, all of which ARE vore by the standards of our community-- and while there are some psychological aspects that some of these sub-fetishes have in common, the only things that are really shared are the symbols and motifs of consumption of one being by another, and the meaning of those symbols varies so completely from one voraphile's envisionment to the next that they simply cannot be united under a single psychological rationalization.
Since discovering the vore community online, nearly 20 years ago, it has always been clear to me that 'vore' itself, is not a singular fetish; but rather that 'vore' is merely an umbrella term that is used to comprise a plethora of different fetishes, which all revolve around the act of one being consuming another.
For every person who has ever tried to put forth a singular definition for vore, there were a dozen people who immediately disagreed with it. The 'domination' theory has been one of the most prevalent to be put forth, probably because it is the most obvious and expected. As animals, there is an instinct for us to survive, and as hunters/predators, there is the feeling of righteousness to overpowering and controlling others.
But the biggest problem here, is that vore is a fetish (or group of fetishes), and not an instinct. Instinct tells us that we should shun vore, not be attracted to it. The very fact that us voraphiles do not shun it, removes it from being a fundamental need, and thus not part of our natural instincts. Just as we are each drawn to certain aspects of vore and repulsed by others, with no two of us react the same to each of them, so too are the underlying desires and causes, different.
There are not yet enough terms available for all the various types of vore out there. The very fact that there are 'types' of vore, means they are different, and thus so would be the individual definitions for each of them.
but I am not saying I'm right or that this is absolute truth so I apologize if I came off that way. this is purely philosophical ramblings
The second half of the statement is more of a stretch, I agree, but then again there are a lot of people out there who define "vore" as being digestive/fatal/permanent/etc. and consider endosoma to be something different. Not that I agree with that sentiment, but it's something to consider.
Vore is hot. :P
Even with my tendence to overanalyze everything, I dont really feel like analizing vore itself. I just prefer to go along it and enjoy it. And that's what I do my best. It doesn't matter if i'm dreaming with some young fur going down my throat or some soft eevee going into my pen, in the end it's all just our imagination and our happiness. Or our libido. Or both.
I remember some months ago that I had a vore dream. It was so vivid, that when I woke up I actually had the taste of the people I was eating in my dream, for real in my mouth. I wish to have an experience like that again. And being a big pred, probably it means that deep inside I wish to have a big ego. I dunno. Vore is actually a communication with oneself. And with your partner.
I know well that my view isnt unique. After all I love fatal vore with digestion, and I am not fan of that vore where the prey is kept safe in the tummy for long times.
What is vore? Its one person being put inside of another person. That's it; What it is beyond that depends on the individuals; Willing or unwilling, fatal or nonfatal, digestion or endo, macro/micro or same size, etc etc.
As has been mentioned, I think think this needs to be tweaked just a little bit to account for the endosoma side of vore, and particularly the prey viewpoint in general, but definitely a good expose' on vore!
Otherwise, you're pretty much spot-on in your philosophy as it applies to any other fetish, as you've mentioned (especially the dominance/submission aspect).
