I'm going to the City!
My mom rented out a house for a week in Maine, and me and the little bit are going to be driving up to spend the time with her, my sister, and my sister's kids. I'm really looking forward to this, since I haven't actually been to Maine since I was in high school. It's very beautiful and it will be the perfect time of year.
On our way home, we'll be driving through New York City, and guess what! I'm planning to make a stop to pick up some fun, unique materials in the garment district. I'm reeeeally looking forward to this, since I've previously relied only on people that sell fabrics from the garment districts online. This is generally short-run stuff that is available in limited quantity, and the things I've made from these furs always do well, so I'm looking forward to having some different things available in my inventory.
In order to help fund my trip, I've started a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/.....furs/x/8290365
The campaign includes various rewards you can select, to be manufactured from the materials I'm able to find. I'll be making purchases regardless of whether or not I get funding (I've got the space on a credit card, and I'm not afraid to use it!) but if I can get away with not having to pay interest on it, even better!
So if you've been thinking about getting a little fuzzy something for yourself, now's the time to do it. If you know someone else that might be looking for a little treat, send them the link!
If you're not able to contribute right now, but you're familiar with NYC, please feel free to share information. If you know of some good fabric stores to hit, let me know, or even some sights to see or a good place to have lunch or dinner! We will be there for two days (the first to browse, the second to actually collect the materials I've decided on) so we will have a little bit of time to play tourist, as well. I haven't been to the City since I was a kid, and at the very least I want to go see Times Square as an adult. ;)

What's the best way to contact you when you've found what's available? I've got my personal Facebook/Twitter/email, and if a phone number would be best I could give you my husband's number.
That said, how have you been? Busy, I suspect!

I'm actually the most active there right now. >___> I can access it through my phone while I'm out so when I go to the city I'll send you messages. XD I know the kind of stuff you can use which is why I figured I'd poke you and let you know. :D
As for how I've been, yes, stupidly busy! We just did three cons in a row, all back to back. With toddler in tow. I don't know what I was thinking, lol. Getting ready to gear up for Halloween now... I have a little bit of down time in August but come September things are going to start getting crazy again. D: I miss having time to read LJ and catch up on FA and everything. T_T
I've been incredibly busy too. You know what's *still* not finished? That fleece lizard I've been working on. I swear, if there's one thing I've learned it's to price fleece projects like this at double what a fursuit costs. OH WELL, she's still going to be awesome. Now I'm hitting con crunch time for Rainfurrest (end of Sept), and trying to wrap up two fullsuits in time for the con while still making progress on commission work. Needless to say I've worked myself sick, currently recovering from a cold turned sinus infection and a simultaneous UTI... Such is the life of an artist, right?
If you do come out, I'll show you where all the good fabric places are out here! I haven't been finding much good in the past year, but I've been going so infrequently I can't tell if that's my luck or a trend yet. I'm hoping to go down this weekend since I really need some Ultracal and the pottery supply and fabric outlet are both down in SODO.
And ugh, fleece is crazy to work with. It drives me nuts! It is so unforgiving. I love being able to hide everything behind fur. XD I totally feel you on working through sickness... it doesn't work as an excuse, if we don't work, we don't get paid! Which means if we take three days off to recover from a cold, guess who's working overtime once the cold is gone. .____.
