I think the main thing that the person is talking about is a disconnect between artists and their viewers. For this, I would just try just being sociable instead of getting personal because that honestly isn't something that someone should get into depth about. :o
To do this, I try my best to just be myself and involve my viewers as much as I can in my projects, ya know? You don't want to be some mysterious guy that draws amazing stuff, doesn't keep in touch with anyone else aside from his close group of friends.
That's just what I think though, you don't have to throw really personal information out there, you just have to be someone that anyone would like to talk to... If that makes sense! x3

I try to be social and personable but most of the time there's not much for me to talk about, responding to comments. But like, for example, I'm going to be out of town for a day. It doesn't really affect my watchers at all (there's literally only one commissioner in queue right now) but would folks like me to post a journal about it? That's the sort of thing I'm talking about when I say personal. Things going on in my life that aren't really art/commission related.
