Finished season 1 as a head coach

General
well it's hard to believe it, but my first year of being a head coach for a summer league swim team is complete.
I've been an assistant coach for this team for three years and was quite comfortable with that position. Becoming the head coach was very intimidating and I had doubts about my ability to lead the team I swam for since I was 5 years old. Luckily the other co-head coach was my younger brother and together we made it work.
We were the smallest team in the league of 6 often with half of the swimmers as our opponents but where we lacked in numbers we did not lack in talent. we went 3-2 in the regular season but finished 2nd at the championship meet losing by only 38 points behind first and over 200 over 3rd (who happened to be the 6-time defending champion who we haven't beaten since 1996). Out of the 5 champs records broken during the meet, three of them were from our team.
It's an amazing seeing all the hours and hard work I've put into this team have these results. I got a lot of compliments from parents which if you've ever dealt with any club team, dealing with the parents is the worst part. All the assistant coaches who've I've worked along with the past three years like the work my brother and I have done.
I'm already looking to the future and see us winning champs for the first time in our programs history and hope I can lead these kids there. They are very motivated now and I think next year is our year.
For now, it's time to get in the mindset of my future in the healthcare field but swimming will always have a special place in my heart.
