Welp!
Mini update of yay, sooooo, first thing's first, I am one cast down!
Yeeeeeeeup, I am now back to two wrists, and am hard at work at physio now in getting my hands back on level playing fields =B Which is good considering I'll need them for this weekend when the newest Magic Game Day occurs, so, wish me luck, as I approach the batting field with some apprehension over Convoke Artifacts and whether or not I can swing this, lol
Magic aside - you'll likely hear pleeeeeenty of that from me next week - me and Jeri got to go to the movies to celebrate one less limb in a cast, and I think you can happily add both of us to the list of folks who plenty enjoyed it
It kinda takes me a second to look at Marvel and DC and realise just how much Marvel has went up to bat and swung on the idea that their fans love the camp and the fun of comic book movies, whereas DC always goes for droll and serious, I glance back at my movie collection and realise the only DC movie in my collection is Dark Knight, which I loved for the Joker, black humor or not, eh =o
In concept I guess as a start a comic book movie is meant to be just what it is, and the whole EVERYTHING SO SERIOUS really did grate a little with the latest Superman offering more visibly than prior movies, these kinda movies are supposed to be fun, so it was nice to be able to go and watch a movie in the Marvel-verse that really did feel on the upbeat
Is it my fave marvel movie? Possibly not, Thor and Iron Man 3 still likely hold those positions, but it's a definite top 5 position, not sure how much I wanna spoil for folks who may not have seen yet, but it's well worth the admission price for Rocket Raccoon alone - We're all on FA, we all know who the real star is of course =P - and certainly I loved seeing Vin Diesel return to some Iron Giant roots with Groot (See what I did there?)
Not to mention Drax! Jeri being a wrestling fan, we've both seen some terrible, teeeerrible Wrestling movies in our days, and we're not discussing Mr Nanny here XP But the idea of Drax being entirely literal really worked wonders for Bautista to plsy the ham out of it and get away with it
All in all, it was just fun galore, and I keep finding myself humming the soundtrack whenever I'm working away right now, lol
Not to mention that after credits scene~ I don't care if no one else got it, but welcome back Howard!!
Just felt like posting this up, I've still got a bit of healing to go, still being stuck in the wheelchair and all, but I got a fresh leg cast on, so my leg feels a little less ick after getting washed down, and I'm feeling better and better as I feel more mobile each day, so hopefully no more doldrum days of waking up and spending all day in bed, lol ^^
I shall holler you all soon as more things occur!

Aaaaaaand yeah, sadly New 52 just did not do DC favors, especially not from female fans <_<
Deathstroke the Terminaor was a villain, with an origin story that was effectively "Captain America goes horribly wrong." Still, he was a sympathetic villain with some serious flaws and some respectable traits. There was a lot of depth to him.
The scene in question had him delivering a long monologue to his friend's head, which was mounted on a wall.
"Oh," I thought. "I guess he's Hannibal Lecter now." So I dropped the book.
I mean, the Joker cuts off his face?
I can't really say my own comics aren't immune to such tactics, Transformers now frequently flirts this with the fact that the characters are 'robots', so seeing Energon and machine parts is 'less real', or at least so the censors rule
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b...../MTMTE8p12.jpg
The case is however that these scare tactics can get repetitive and make readers a little alienated sometimes, it's a harsh line to walk when most comics traditionally need a cliffhanger to keep the reader going, especially if the writers team continually uses fake outs to make it look as if a character has been killed
Hopefully it'll be a while before I need to worry about that scenario again!
Aaaaand, yeah, you know what? So what if I'm taking a while to get out of the chair? Six weeks is pretty damn quick for me to get ANY of my casts removed
But yesss! Campy goofy fun, the prison break alone is wonderous, and Rocket was everything I'd hope he'd be seeing him and Groot realised on screen <3 I think it certainly helps having folks doing what they love, and I think that setting a fun tone helps, because then when you DO go serious it means something, same reason I love MTMTE for my Transformers fix, mood whiplash and feels aplenty there, lol
But eh, we'll see what DC attempts in future mayhap, Bats vs Supes soon, soooooo, we'll see I guess =O
And I have mild interest in some DC stuff, but most of it comes off as like it's a bad parody of itself attempting to be gritty and serious with the movies and comics. XD;
I know it sounds weird, but I cried a bit when Star Lord initiated the dance-off with Ronin. Sir, THAT is how we win!
Well enjoyed that moment, just as everything's getting too heavy they pull it back from the brink, lol, I dunno how I'd have reacted either
Haven't seen all the Marvel movies yet, but Iron Man 1 is a big favorite.
Trying to remember, didn't the first movie have Stan Lee have his cameo as a Hugh Heffnor-alike?
And yeah, the first Iron Man film did push some buttons most superhero films don't - "Building stuff and engineering is fun." It needed one more fight scene, though, where the suit started to make the transition from cool flying thing to weapon. The multifire rocket pods and antitank weapon in the Gulmeira fight were awesome, but why did Tony build them in?
As for the armor question? It does ring somewhat strange and against Tony's whole anti-weaponry thing, but I'm guessing that Tony being Tony and preparing multiple attachments and accessories for the armor as possible prep for the trip knew what things he might have encountered and suited up accordingly
The idea of an extra fight would have been nice, but I do wonder who they could have picked as a throwaway villain to appear and vanish, most of Stark's villains are similarly tech based and normally get a little of their own backstory to go with them, it's established by the second movie that its only after his proving the method of making armored suits that other countries and sources begin to try their own hand properly at the idea
Properly speaking, I don't think you can have a true-pacifist superhero, because superheroes are about saving the world by PUNCHING people IN THE FACE.
Iron Man has an interesting story in it because it at least tries to deal with the responsibility of engineers when they create something. Tony has to believe that problems can be solved by violence or he wouldn't be beating people up with his Iron Man suit, so his conflict is more about his responsibility when someone else misuses his work.
So we still have a question about why he armed the Iron Man suit. Maybe he just likes to tinker with weapons, which is reasonable, but then he should have a gun collection that would rival Silverfox's.
As the film stands I don't think he'd add the antitank weapon or the multifire rocket pod unless he was specifically thinking, "What if I have to face a tank?" and "What if I am in a hostage situation?" Which, of course, he is in when he raids Gulmira.
But then of course, we've reached a point where there is some overthinking mayhap, when really the most correct answer is that the script writers wanted fun ways to show off just what Tony's armor could do
Although there IS that fun thought of Stark versus Silverfox, see who has the biggest weapons cache to have fun with...
"Because Tony thinks they're awesome" is a perfectly good reason, but they didn't really establish that he likes weapons the same way he likes cool rides.
I know you think of me weird but I am your friend and sorry if I bother you, if at all I do wierd shit please tell me.
But certainly Ledger carved a high mark that any other actors will find hard to surpass, it really is tragic when things like this happen, but he'll always be fondly remembered, I was particularly happy that Terry Gilliam paid him a huge homage in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus by not deleting his footage and instead finding an inventive new way to use other actors to fill the final segments of the movie for him and retain all of the work Ledger had completed to that point
...
And I still get wary to this day at offers of being shown magic tricks
But yes, every person who approaches the joker does go with a good bit of gusto, and normally have their own bag of tricks to throw in and make their Joker stand out, even Kevin Michael Richardson's Joker

Note: this is not to say that any good Joker would need to be constantly bouncing off the walls. Just that the overall effect needs to be manic, even if there are some quiet moments.
Gotta love me some Bat-autotuning devices~
And yes, I did like the Catwoman portrayal this time round as well =D
But DC does need to embrace silliness sometimes <3
Oh man! I've seen some BatB and it's great. :D Need to watch more! They really embrace the silly with that one and really should do it more. <3
