I have an asus laptop and my dumb ass just got a virus
How do I start up my laptop in safe mode and do that reset thing where I delete all downloads from a certain time?

Press F8 as your computer starts up. Choose Safe Mode with Networking and download MalwareBytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/ and https://www.malwarebytes.org/chameleon/

Both should be good enough to find your virus and get rid of it.

This is one of those viruses that block virus scanners though btw, will it still work?

Well, safe mode loads only the most critical resources, so likely the virus will not be active and able to perform countermeasures. The best way to deal with infections though is not to load anything at all from the infected drive, instead connecting to as an external device to a clean pc and using that to sift through the inactive data.

Opening up the computer, removing the harddrive and plugging it in to another PC as pure data drive by using an external frame. That way you are using no part of the infected operating system.

I`d recommed getting a good free antivirus program to have running on your PC constantly - for example http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVG_(software). Run any executable you download through before doing anything with it. Many antivir programs automatically scan files as they come in too.

Oh? And it was kept regularly updated and still the virus got through? Guess new stuff being developed in the virus world can outmanouvre the software if you`re unlucky enough to be among the early infectees.
