How did you discover fursuits/Fursuiting?
I honestly do not remember when or how I found out about fursuiting. I know I stumbled across it on the internet at some point many years ago, and always harbored a secret interest in it. Most likely it was through FA before I actually became a member. I do distinctly remember seeing OFA and early MadeFurYou suits.
What made you decide to get/make a suit of your own?
The desire to try my hand at making one! I decided I wanted to see how much work went into building one before commissioning a suit so I could a) appreciate the craftsmanship that much more and b) understand how to repair my suit if something tore or ripped! But in actual fact, I always loved to play pretend as a kid with my best friend. We'd make up crazy stories and act them out in my backyard as the characters we chose. It isn't really a surprise both of us went into theater for a while.
Did you make your suit or buy it? If bought, who made it?
Sirocco's head and feet were made by me. His tail(s) and hands were made by
Karimah and his bodysuit was made by
sokitwopaw!
Sowulo was made by
Temperance
Why did you choose this maker if bought?
I chose Karimah because she was a newer maker, and she really had her shit together! xP But she had posted a few WIPS of GSD parts and I basically decided to throw money at her. I wasn't disappointed! SHAMELESS PLUG but she's really a great person to work with. Go. Go give her monies. Go.
Soki because I really loved the detail he put into a few of his suits in particular, and I got to check out his MOOSE suit firsthand. I was pleased with the work, and decided to ask him to make the bodysuit!
Temperance, for Sowulo, because VIKINGS! She was the GOH at RF13 and I LOVED the Seven Bucks! I was totally into the idea of a Viking group, so I jumped on the opportunity immediately.
If you could have anyone make your next version, who would it be?
Sirocco? Definitely
. Those ears!
Best suiting experience:
Marysville Lights Parade last December. It was freezing cold outside and I marathon suited for HOURS. I got to make a lot of people smile, and this one older lady in particular got a huge kick out of it. I gave her a big hug mid-parade and she told me she needed that. It really warmed my heart. ;__;
Worst suiting experience:
Lost my tail during the Procession of the Species? I haven't had a bad suiting experience yet. I know it'll happen, but so far so good.
Describe your first suiting outing:
WFS 13! It was really fun, though it was sort of a test run for Sirocco's head. It was my first time meeting most of the great friends I know today, and I will fondly think back on that day always. <3
What is your favorite part of your suit (a detail that's special, or something you feel was executed perfectly)?
I love Sirocco's big ears, my handpaws, and the digitgrade on the bodysuit is just perfect. <3
Sowulo... hm. I haven't had him as long, but I really LOVE his markings and his gentle expression. AND THE HANDS. Omg. The dexterity in the hands is incredible.
What would you change about your suit if you could?
Sirocco: need a slightly larger head, and better ventilation. The mouth opens super wide, but the mask sits right on my face so all that airflow doesn't mean jack.
Sowulo: It's a bit hard to see out of, but I think that's because I'm used to acrylic mesh rather than buckram.
How long did it take to save up for your suit -or- how long did it take you to make your suit?
Sirocco's head, in total, took about 3 months of work including a revamp after RF13.
I didn't save up for Sowulo, but I did pay him off in chunks. Took about 7-8 months!
What does fursuiting mean to you?/why do you fursuit?
Making people smile, laugh, and experience something outside of the norm. I'm talking non-furries. Speaking from experience: I grew up dirt poor, so I never got to go to Disneyland or any of those big theme parks and see all the characters walking around. So to be able to interact with kids and adults alike through this character of mine and bring them joy is really incredible and fulfilling to me. To make just one person's day is enough for me.
If you had to choose a maker from an opposing style to make a version of your suit in their style, who would you choose (Between toony and realistic)?
Sirocco would look strange in realistic, but if I had to chose, it would have to be
.
Sowulo... I'd pick
.
Do you prefer suiting at cons or at public events/places?
Public events are fun, but they take a lot out of me because you have to be so alert. I enjoy cons more because I can let loose!
Do you prefer suiting indoors or outside?
Outside. BREEZE. <3
Do you talk in suit? Why or why not:
Sometimes. At cons? Yes. In public, not as often. If I'm really into the performance, I won't talk. But if it's more casual, I'll answer questions in-character. I don't really like to talk in suit since both of my characters are male, and I don't have a convincing male voice.
Is your suit your fursona a representation of you or just a character to play?
Sirocco is a representation of me AND a character to play. He's built with the idea of who I would be if there wasn't IRL pressures and anxieties keeping me in a more confined box. He's outgoing, rambunctious, unpredictable, care-free, and loving.
How do you like to perform in your suit? What character do you give it?
Sirocco is a social butterfly, and a very expressive guy. He is always moving from place to place to give everyone hugs and love. He's also a bit proud of himself, and loves attention.
Sowulo is a watcher. He's very collected and noble. He walks with a purpose, but doesn't try to draw attention to himself unless he's in a mood.
Did your character’s personality change at all after getting a fursuit?
Yes! Sirocco was once more of a serious character, but I decided I had too many serious characters. He's more fun as a party animal.
