Yeah its pretty messed up isnt it? i would have never thought he was suffering from depression.

I know, right? It's just hard to picture someone like him who has made millions laugh, smile, and cry could suffer so much. He was genuinely a unique person. : (

Yeah, I'm still reeling from the shock of it. I hadn't heard that he suffered from depression, but apparently he fought with it most of his life... I know how demoralizing it can be firsthand, so I can kind of identify with that state of mind. But I can't fathom how he could have become so desperate to escape it that he was compelled to kill himself.

I read that he struggled with addiction for a long time, and was quoted as saying that it never completely left him. So that may have been a factor as well. But I prefer not to delve too deeply into his personal life... Just seems a bit disrespectful somehow. Not that I think it's wrong to discuss the tragedy of his untimely passing of course, just that sensationalizing every minute detail of the man's private struggles is wrong.

He truly brought a great deal of happiness to the world, and we're all the poorer for the loss of him. But his work will live on and continue to touch and inspire people for generations to come.

Well said Rasc. He was a talented person and he will be missed, but like you mentioned his work will live on in his memory. Which reminds me, I need more of his movies in my collection, I've only got Popeye, and the ex took a majority of his other ones we had of his.

From the outside he had everything but obviously he was missing something that not even money could buy. Maybe what he really needed was a friend that he could just talk to. Hard to say but it sure is wrong w r o n g that he couldn't find some help.

So true, Race. You look back at all the wonderful things he did for others, it's a shame no one returned the favor to help him. My friend Dave Burch posted a truly inspiring and thoughtful remembrance status on his FB page honoring Robin, it was very well stated and heartfelt.

That is a good point, but sometimes the nature of severe depression actually causes a person to not even want help. It tries to convince them that there isn't anyone or anything that can help them, and that the only way to stop the pain is to end their life. That said, talking about it is probably the most helpful thing one can do about it.
