To my knowledge, FA does not send out notifications for updated submissions. I've even seen a favorited pictured swapped for a different one right under my nose.

I also am surprised that you can get a higher quality post by replacing the file. That might actually be an oversight in their code. The whole point of compressing them in the first place is would be to place a cap on file sizes, and that kinda undermines it lol. Either the initial upload is compressing too much, they're not compressing replacements, or they have two different compressing functions that are out of sync. Or perhaps it's intentional... which would be kinda pointless in my opinion.

FA only sends out notifications for new submissions, not for edits / modification. So, in that, you're correct.
The file replacement "feature" is indeed a bug, one that site staff is aware of, but doesn't mind. (So, they're knowingly allowing people to "use" that bug to upload larger files)

Hmmmmmm they should fix that. Lots of new artist out there uploading big files. The maximum deminsions are 4000x4000 correct?

FA uploads are limited to 1280x1280 pixels as a maximum size. When you upload a larger file, it is shrunk down. If you re-upload the file again, after the original submission, that rule is disregarded and any size is allowed. This btw, is a "bug" and not a "feature" and doing this is apparently frowned upon by FA admins even though they appear to do very little to enforce/change it.

I would suggest using image software to rescale the images to 1280 pixels, which should leave you with an image that won't get automatically resized by FA, image software like Photoshop or gimp should give you a smaller image while maintaining much of the quality of the original.

I agree they should raise it. I think they set the limit when 1280 pixels was considered 'big' for an image years ago but now with cameras and scanners that have much higher resolutions its no longer a good size.

its a shame, I really wish this site had the interface and capabilities of other furry art sites that lack FA's social monopoly on furry art communities.

Using the bug isn't frowned upon by site staff. There are no rules / policies against it. (But I'd suggest using common sense. Don't upload a obnoxiously large image )

Yeah Well why not just take the cap off? or make it higher? so -re-uploads don't have to take place ya know? it would certainly help people viewing the art who ignore it their first look, and never press f5 to see the rebuilt image.

I think the original upload always gets taken down to a smaller compressed version if it's too big.
The largest size I've been able to submit without problems is having a max of 1250px on either side, otherwise it gets compressed by FA's crappy .jpg parser and the entire image quality is lost.

The site is old. Back in the day, that cap was a good idea due to both file size limitations and available screen resolutions.

Awe, but its suppose to be magic. The quirks of FA are like easter eggs in some ways.

you can get high res when you g on your submission, click on Change submission file and upload exactly the same file again, then you should get full resolution

i just upload in crap quality, then offer the original high res for a download from another website.

I usually post my stuff resized in .png 1280px on the longer side + sharpen it slightly in photoshop (not with the sharpen filter but with smart sharpen)
