♥ "i wanna ruin our friendship, we should be lovers instead" ♥
So, my high school (of which I just graduated from) FINALLY wants me to make a new mascot for them.
AFTER I've already left.
Even though I spent the entire year in ASB trying to convince them to let me, since theirs is shit.
But it was always NO.
However, this year's ASB convinced the supervisor.
Over three weeks ago, I was asked, and I was supposed to be contacted by the supervisor about it.
They can't afford full price costume at my prices, so I offered material price, and extra.
(Like, around $100-$200, way less than minimum wage).
I was never contacted.
Then, out of the blue, two days ago, I was asked to go to the school for a meeting with him to get it settled.
At 8 in the morning.
In my summer.
So, flash forward to today.
I wake up at 6:30 to get ready.
Packed my notebook, references, price breakdowns, etc.
Ride my bike in the chilly morning all the way there.
To find he's not there.
"He's late" I assume.
The office ladies call and call, but he never picks up.
I let myself into his office and wait for an hour.
And hour of doing almost nothing.
I finally give up, write him a note with my email, and leave.
I text the ASB president regarding it, and he's upset.
He's been trying to get ahold of the supervisor for a few hours.
I'd feel bad if something really bad happened, but I don't think that's the case.
At this point, I do not think it would be beneficial to me at all to take this project on.
I mean, I was very excited to remake him, but that was when I attended the school.
I can't believe they would come to me after I graduated and finally ask me to do it.
I won't be paid really at all, and the time I use to make the mascot, I could use for a commission.
I remember the supervisor wanting it before school.
Which starts on September 3rd for them.
But that was over three weeks ago, and I no longer have that time.
The only pro, I think, is I would have another suit under my belt.
So, do you think I should even take this on?
[EDIT]
The reason the supervisor wasn't there was because he was out of town for a conference.
Nonetheless, he should have contacted me prior.
He "forgot".
Rude.
You need to egt paid for work, like more than material costs. If they want somethign cheap they can go get something less quality.
Not trying to sound mean, im sure they are cool people
But now my name's kinda out there, and I do not think it would be worth the effort.
Thanks for the opinion.
If you want another suit under your belt; i'd say make yourself something personal to practice or open for commissions at a later date; where someone will pay you for your time and effort!
And yeah, I'm working on a premade, so that's more experience for me!
best of luck to you hun! Looking forward to seeing more of your work!
Your schools mascot might really be old and tattered, but even looking at new mascots for colleges the construction is not up your ally, unless you want to get that experience under your belt for some strange reason.
What I foresee happening is you bust your butt and wast time for minimum wage (which you should charge them full price) for your work.
Your work will be lovely it will be artistically great. Someone whos never worn a FURSUIT, note not a MASCOT costume, will wear it, it will go to football games, basketball games, it will be around rowdy people with cola drinks and greasy hands. People who will not treat the costume with respect. The person inside will be running, jumping, and beating the crap out of the costume. No one will bother to brush the fur, things will get matted and sweaty and never washed correctly.
Unless you're willing to work with short pile minks and are willing to reinforce high tear seams with quality jacket thread, unless you are willing to watch your work get beaten, and unless you have a knowledgeable person to clean and care for said costume, I would not do it.
Also lol @ ur school the 3rd is my birthday
