Feral dragons, anthro cats? I dunno. I think I'm a little biased. I have a feral dragon and an anthro cat. XD

Do you have a story for the comic? I know you aren't going for anything super epic but if you have a strong story concept, it will help you keep up with the comic. It stinks when you get 3 pages in and you don't know what to do next because you haven't fully plotted out the story. I'd recommend reading Droemar's journals if possible. Here are some cool ones:

As for species, I'd recommend drawing whatever you like drawing. But keep in mind that if you're writing a wolf, they should *act* like a wolf. Study how the animals behave before you start writing. Does this animal species live in groups, or are they loners outside of the breeding period? Do they care for their own kind, or are they cannibalistic? If the animals act exactly like hunter/gatherer humans, it might be better to just use humans in the comic.

(Though, personally, I wouldn't recommend writing a comic just to test out whether you can keep up with something. Comics are... yeah. There's a reason why 90% of people who do webcomics quit within the first 15 pages. A better test would be to say to yourself "Okay, I have to make (X) amount of pictures by the end of the week," or "I have to do (x) studies by the end of the month." But if you have an awesome story idea that you want to tell, that's different.)

Ive always loved making up stories, creating worlds, etc. i actually have tons of stories ready, though most are too complex for a comic because i like having very backed up concepts and storylines. I force myself into defining every little detail and i hate leaving things to be just "because".
This is why i question myself over and over again for dumb things like what species should i choose? would that be the best for the story ive got in my head? would that suit the characters at best? etc

I do want to make comics and not just an amount of images. I dont want to use my best ideas because they are too complicated to express in a comic and because im not used to comic storytelling (panels, dialogues, etc) this is why i want to start with one of my minor ideas.

If i do fail with the project, which wouldnt be that strange, will be because of lack of time to dedicate myself to it or because of my usual confidence issues

for this story in particular i have already planed the complete storyline, so i wont have the "what do i do next" issue

I hear you there. I have my own worlds that I'm working on which might be cool in comic form, but I'm reluctant to do them because I don't want my first comic to be too super complex. Trying to tackle those stories now would be like making my first painting just as good as the Sistine chapel. XD

But I've been considering doing a short 5-20 page comic with a nice, simple story just to practice paneling and such. You still get to practice, but it isn't a long-term thing that will sap all of your time and energy. Maybe you could do a comic version of something that you love, like something from mythology? (But if you already have a story planned out, good for you!)

exactly! this comic wont be anything too out of the ordinary and wont have such a deep meaning, it will be just for fun. As im definitely not able to handle a full complex comic yet.

Ohh that was my first idea too! but as im super obsessive with well defined stories i couldnt come up with something good and short lol

How about a comic about something a little less cuddly? (Well, I know dragons aren't usually considered cuddly, noble maybe, mighty, not quite cuddly XD) Like... Anthropomorphic birds? Crows, jays, chickadees, kestrels, bobwhites, red-eyed vireos... the options are endless!

About the comic part... I ad my vote to what fits better... If you say you have a story ready.. If you have the basic characters outlines, It would be better to look what these characters are or what their traits and personality better reflect in a given species.. if they are loners or work in group / social; if they are agressive or peacefull by choice; if they are carnivores or herbivores - a fun choice when the try to act oposite to it, like a peaceful carnifore who dislike the kiling... ^.^ ...that said, why not shed some light on the less popular species, skunks, rabits, rodents, badgers, anteaters.. maybe critters from a particular habitat related to where the story is told...

The storyline makes it adaptable to most species with minor changes of course, if the answer was as clear as whatever it fits best i wouldnt be asking lol XD I agree making thet "opposite" characters is fun haha
haha i dont think i would try to do a whole comic on species i havent even drawn before, but thanx for the suggestion ! :D
