A mask blank is kind of the understructure for a costume head.

friend of mine bought something on ebay; seller also sold a similar item to someone else around the same time; he sent out the two items with the addresses mixed up. of course my friend's was the more expensive of the two, and my friend being an honest person forwarded his item to the correct address. jackhole on the other end never sent his to my friend, so now he's out the money AND the product and ebay won't get involved because (frankly) that was the wrong way to handle that mistake.

99.9999% of the time I don't have problems with online shit, but that one remaining fraction is ALWAYS the most expensive/annoying/WTF kind of fuckery, every time

Agreed! 99 times transactions go off without a hitch, but it is that 1 time that keeps us all humble. At least I learnt something, so maybe next time I buy a similar item I will ask things up front.

I bought a mask blank. It weighs 2 pounds - totally impractical for long sessions of costuming. As I said below, I got exactly what it says in the item description except that using it for its intended purpose would be incredibly uncomfortable.

In my experience Resin blanks do have a bit of weight to them

I did contact the manufacturer - they weren't interested. I contacted my builder/finisher to see if we could work around it. Chiselling away at it to lighten it would cost me more than four times what the blank is worth right now.

I mean, I've worked with resin blanks before and they were all at least 2lbs if not more.
But the maker wouldn't hear you out at all? Who is this maker?

I would rather not say. The person is a big name and I don't want to invite a troll patrol of their fans to my page by naming them in public.

If you bought anything anywhere that you have paid with PayPal and there is a problem with the item that the seller won't cooperate to solve, you could file a dispute within PayPal for that purchase and if the seller still doesn't after that, you escalate the dispute into a claim and a PayPal representative will take care of the case. I had some problems in the past with some stuff bought over the Internet, transations of over thousand dollars in one case and I always got either the good merchandise or a full refund. I hope this can work for you too.

My problem is that the item description was vague enough to include what I received and I wasn't experienced enough with the type of item to ASK ahead of time. I really cannot dispute the transaction because I technically got what it says I would get. :)

That's why I'm so disappointed - I probably only have my *own* inexperience to blame & that is embarrassing.

Well, that is unfortunate... There's that quote though, which says "We all learn from our mistakes." It happened to me quite often and it's still happening, at least, not for the same thing twice!

Depending on the maker and style, resin blanks almost always require purchasers work in order to prepare it. A DIY blank for instance requires sanding, cutting, possible altering, padding to fit, and so on. Even cut/hinged blanks require some work.

Trick with resin is depending on its size, it can weigh a bit. Proper padding and strapping can fix that if dremeling is impractical.

Yup, I was prepared for all that and so was my builder/finisher. She is well-known and very experienced with resin blanks. When we sent her multiple shots/angles of the actual item, we both agreed that it wasn't worth proceeding.

Aside from the weight, what else is the problem?

Delivered to the wrong address and some key features of the blank are noticeably miscast causing asymmetry not pictured in the product preview.

I could get that ship shape if you'd like. We work on all sorts of materials here in the shop with all the kit cars that roll through so a little weight reduction and smoothing wouldn't be any effort at all. Use light weight air epoxies for any divets needing filling and several hand buffers and grinders that can ease off some of the thickness.

Thanks for the kind offer, but the manufacturer was adamant that the weight/thickness is essential for structural integrity and I can accept that. Once potential drama has moved on, I'll consider passing it on to someone who might enjoy it more than I will. :)
