I'm sorry your church experience wasn't the best.
Fortunately, you don't have to go to church to be Christian. Church doesn't make you a Christian anyway. As you can obviously see from your experience. They only act the part but don't have jesus in their heart. It's terrible when people say they are christian and are not. That only repells anyone from going to the cross. Don't listen to what people say, listen to what God says. What do you feel that he says about these things? They surely won't send you to hell unless you love them more than you do him.
