Hard to say, as I have over 40 chars. I have a main 4 though, TRPC, Fiddlesticks, Mint and Sheo. Bouncing between those 4, i rarely get tired of them. And then i have all my toher chars i can doodle or get doodled :D

My previous fursona I was so sure was going to be my final. I get my fursuit for him very soon and am stoked to suit as him, but I disconnected with his design because he has the same problem yours has about complexity of species and overall design. I am so glad I switched to a simpler design and species.
I don't see what harm could come from possibly playing around with a new design and see if anything clicks.

if you need a break then play with an alt but never toss a fursona out unless you feel your forever done.

Don't change your fursona based on what other people think, they can just sod off.

Alternatively, you can create secondary or tertiary characters. I have my main (Aurora) and two other secondary chars, plus a completely different fursuit character. I never thought I would have more than one, but here I am, rocking 4.

I cheat by having my character be a shapeshifter.

Sometimes... I'll make new characters or even try to draw Skye as another species just to see what she'd look like.
I always jump back to her though, Skye is my main for a reason xD

I have my two main sonas, one female and one male. My true fursona people always assume is a deer but that is my own fault but I love her design so I dont mind explain that the only deer parts of her are her ears, antlers and coloring. The other is obviously canine so I dont need to explain that part so much

My past sonas I ditched but that is because my friends wanted to help me make them. I wanted to please everyone so they took over and what I ended up with became something that wasnt mine. So I made another one and didnt listen to what anyone said and came out with my main sona that I dont see myself ever getting ride of.

I personally love Chu's design. He is unique and so different from other sonas I see, so to me it makes sense that when in suit you would get asked what you are. It would be interesting to see an anthro sea horse though and a suit of that

well, if most of your reasons are because of other people, then you shouldnt change, bc your fursona is for you, not to make things easier for others

I don't have a fursona per say, I kind of do... but I don't really do much with her. Just kind of have one for the sake of having one... and I hate drawing myself XD Drawing me as a cat is so much better!

As for my characters, no, none of them. Even my main guy who I get tons and tons of art work of cause... I just love that man XD I've had him for 13 or so years now and it is a fear of mine that I get tired of him, it hasn't happened yet, not even kind of sort of, so I guess that's a good sign! I do worry others get tired of seeing him cause I kind of fawn over him a good bit Lol

People mistake my main man for a fox all the time, not too many people know about maned wolves which is actually a huge surprise to me, course... I didn't either until I was researching a new species to make him a few years ago so I guess it's not all that strange

ps, Chu is super cute! having another character may give you a nice break for while so it can't hurt, and yeah I agree, having a seahorse anthro would be so cool!

You know what, I think you should stay true to chu. In the end yes it is your decision and it's hard not to let people sway you or be swayed by others comments.
My Terran is a species I've designed, one and only and not many know about him or what he is. Though I find my happiness in that.

I love so many animals, have a million ideas for creatures and species and trust me I try to make them all. What I find is terran isn't my "fursona" he is so much more and wasn't originally made to be but acts as my image for the site and community, I connect with him and simply smile with warmth seeing him. I love the fact he is unique and something I've created, a single number and not 1 in 100 animals that I love or love. Some do ask and I say he's a special species I've created, many still don't know what exacly he is.

but why should that define my love for him, it must be annoying since you're fursuiting but maybe try to define chu more enthusiastically? instead of briefing as a seahorse monster thing try using simple short words that make you feel good about your lovely adorable chu.

Im sorry to hear that. I myself have 3 main fursonas and 3 secondary sonas. I though my original one was gonna be The One but i felt that she was more of a mascot cause her name was the shortform of my username.

Maybe have like Two sonas? Cause Chu is pretty damn cute and i think a seahorse monster is pretty unique. My Bammer is a lavalamp monster but people think shes a naga. :/ snakebody = instant naga. Even though she has no scales.

My main 3 sonas act like diff parts of me. Bammer is my fascination for glowy things and im always hungry, Drocelle is my pervy teasing side with a short temper and Livre is my nerdy book hoarding side.

no, you shoudn't have to! Honestly, I think other people just aren't very creative hahahah. People always want to know what things are, and I don't think it's ignorance that makes them ask, but just curiosity! My fursona is a Maiasaura (duck-billed dinosaur) and I have been called a duck, a monkey, a platypus... Chu is wonderful and there's no doubt that they are a very unique character! You are known for them, and people who do know you love and appreciate such uniqueness! I'll admit, I also have other side fursonas and suits I am making simply because sometimes it is more fun to be included when you're easily recognizable, but I don't think you should have to take away from what you truly love >w<

Well the trick is more finding what suits your interests at the time and another side of the coin try and make the character famous and easily recognizable even if it is obscure

To put it simply do think people just clung to the first design of any character

Take  ino89777's telephone a famous character but a bit obscure and do you think they were always famous no they had to go thru mental trial and error with their design and I'm sure present day telephone I'd vastly different from original concept telephone so don't get discouraged just keep up the great work

Yes. Many times I get tired of Lucky like I get tired of my own self. We are as we are though. Maybe it's better to enjoy being ourselves through the good and bad times than to switch who we are. :)

Actually the reason why I have Pierce is because I was growing tired of my sona. He's now my primary one though.

I find it blaintly obvious what chu is. But don't worry, I'm on the same boat. My main sona which is a dragon species that I made up gets pointed at as an AD or my Monster sona as a Halloween rodent xD

i gave up on having a sole/permanent 'sona ages ago, it felt so restricting.
i get tired of everything after a while, some i come back to as i miss them as characters but i'll just let my 'sonas grow and change with me.

Huh, yeah, I think it's pretty obvious what Chu is too. Odd. &yeah, I do get tired at times of my fursona, which is why I have two main ones- opossum, and deer. I'm currently using my deer character as I got a bit tired of my opossum, but since that's my main one and I identify with him the most, I'm sure I'll go back to him eventually.

I have only changed my sona twice officially. And the last design (my cow) had survived most of the way as I revamped into something I wanted to be "me" and I could feel was "me". I still have some of that design in my latest design of my sona. And I've been working on my sona for a good year or so too 8C.
I know you've been through a lot of designs, so I guess you should just make something you feel is what you love/want. It doesn't matter what people think right? Because in the end it's your representation of what you love/want/and feel as you, right?

I've actually gotten tired of my fursona a few times. Mainly because she's everywhere and I'm always looking at her. But those thoughts have never stayed in my mind for long periods of time. I always fall right back in love with her. She just means so much to me that I could never give her up, ever.

I did, however, just get a 2nd fursona recently. So that helps split it up a little bit. :3

Your character looks absolutely nothing like Telephone what the heck…And being that Telephone's species is apparently an open species that wouldn't make sense to call anything remotely similar to her a rip-off as she basically sells recolors of her character's species as suits and whatnot good gravy…

I've been Lakota since I was 11, and I've never changed a single bit of her design... so we're stuck for life together, even if there IS something I might want to change XD I just can't bring myself to do it, she's existed for so long XD

It's always okay to have more that one character you feel represents you. I have two, and I love them both a lot. I'm about to make a third one! There's nothing wrong with playing around with different characters if you get tired of looking at the same one all the time. U u U

Dont beat your self up over it, furries have a hard time recognising anything other then a fox, husky or wolf or whatever animal du jour happens to be in vogue that week.

You could always make a new character and set Chu to the side, if you tire of the new one, you'll always have Chu to fall back on.
I think Chu is adorable, but if you feel you want to make a pure seahorse, I say go for it. They are just as adorable.

The thing is, do you feel you connect with Chu more or a pure seahorse? I had the same issue back when I had my sona Harley...the donkey/husky hybrid. I loved her so much, but eventually felt I didn't connect with it, I wanted her to be a pure miniature donkey, so I created Knoah. People always confused Harley as a horse/husky anyway and it was frustrating, so I know your pain.

In the end it's what you feel is right/best for you. Just because people can't identify Chu as a specific species, doesn't mean you should have to change your sona. If in the end you decide to stay as Chu, maybe create a species yourself for him if you haven't already.

I've been in the same situation and staying a character just because of art ,and in my case, a fursuit that I purchased or one that you made will not make you happy. In the end it kinda feels like you're trapped being one way forever...

Honestly, I do sometimes get tired of my persona, but that might be why my guy has so many 'forms' Bahamut has so many different forms that it helps mix things up, heck I even have 'twins' of him in Tumahab, Hunter, and Runic.

I don't think you failed as a character designer though, I for one could see the sea horse influence right away. It's just some people are used to some designs that seeing something new can confuse them. I know I've faced similar before, so don't let it discourage you.

I feel that way about Belle sometimes. I went through a phase where I seriously considered retiring her because I couldn't stand all the 'Jem' comments I was getting, but it doesn't really bother me much anymore. Sometimes I feel very generic for having a werewolf/canine fursona, but eh. I also have a camel who's as much of a fursona as Belle is, so that works I guess, lol.

And if it helps, I immediately think of a seahorse when I see Chu and I think he's one of the cutest characters on this entire site. He's got a very unique, recognizable design.

It's totally cool, if you loved your fursona once you'll love what you have of them and moving to a new one is no big deal, I usually "try one on" for a week and see how I feel about it. If you don't like how it feels in that set of fur, go back and try again.

Don't let anyone tell you not to change if you feel like you should, it's just a silly fandom stereotype that you have to stay one thing forever. Everyone changes, sometimes your fursona follows suit.

Ahh I have been feeling the same for almost a year now! My sona is a dragon, but because he has a mane and large ears, people seem to assume he's a horse or bat and it bothers me so much. I just want to have a cool sona that I love to draw! But it's tiring when people don't get it or don't care much for the design. Maybe try out some new ideas to see if any have the same spark Chu gave you? If not, maybe Chu is the right one for you and you just need to find that little spark in him again C:

Ok that's kind of a lie, I had 2 fursonas when I was a teenager, but I've been trying to make one for me now since April and having no luck at all. I feel ya! But Chu is super awesome, whether you have to explain or not!

I agree with many of the voiced opinions. Don't change your fursona, your outward reflection of yourself, simply because people can't be bothered to "get it". I have another friend dealing with people misinterpreting her as a crux when she's clearly not one. Your species is creative, inventive, and delightful. I love seeing artwork done of ChuChu and others of her species. Everyone else can just bugger off if they have a problem with it.

I get tired of Fursona's quickly. None never feel like the furry version of me. But what I find that helps is having at least more then one fursona. Likes like moods, if I'm mad then I switch to a sona who's more of a jerk/angry/impulsive. What I find hard about making a sona is pretty much all of it, what species, their personality, and if I actually like them. But to get back to your question, yes I get tired of my sona's.

I've attempted to see how I fit with another species of sona, but it has never worked. I've always reverted back to my kyuubi sona, so I honestly never ever get tired of him. I've been drawing him for well over 10 years, and I just can't get sick of him.

But, when I doodle him, most people think he's a rabbit or cat

I've had the exact same fursona for going on 10 years now and she has never grown old to me. No coloring changes, no species changes, nothing. She's always been perfect to me.

I also have a variety of other characters I connect with and claim as having "part" of myself in them. It helps, I think, that I don't actually draw my fursona very frequently, nor do I fursuit so it doesn't give me similar problems. I have thought it'd be cute to have a suit of one of my alien critters, and I KNOW people wouldn't know what the hell it was if they asked (a 3-tailed cat thing? Maybe). At the same time, that's all of my characters, since 90% of them are aliens/made up species. So I would have absolutely no trouble telling people what they are and if they're too stupid to grasp that then that's their loss. I see people mistaking very clear species in fursuits as something else so I don't think the matter lies in the sona itself but people being clueless.

So I think Chu is adorable as is~

I've been asking a few people for some aesthetic opinions as I try to design a new one, I would love to run her by you too, if you don't mind. It will probably be a while because I only find like 2 hours a month to draw xD I'd just like some opinion on overall balance/design aspect. Yeahhh, the profit thing comes and goes. It's just an expensive business to run, especially starting up and having no fur stock, so if someone orders a $60 tail and I don't have any fur of the 3 colours on it, I might have to spend $100 on furs. Plus all of the materials are more expensive to get to me in Canada. And after that it's just underquoting ourselves and getting our name out. It'll get there! :3 We were doing pretty well there when we were spitting out parts really efficiently, but then the airplane took forever and backlogged us a bit, and right now we're struggling through 3 super complex smaller projects that are working out to be like $1/hr xD

Ahh, I getcha! It's definitely a good idea to get your name out. I know I personally struggle with that in my own commission work. I need to raise my prices but I just can't because then no one will buy ;n; The fur stock limitation makes a lot of sense though. And I can definitely see that airplane pushing you guys back - that thing was ridiiiculooous. But in a good way! I hope you can manage to get yourself caught up and back on that non-stress roll! xD

I, personally, stopped trying to make a fursona because I can't stick with just one. I try to tell myself "You're going to stick with this one whether you like it or not", but then I make another character I really like and make that my new fursona. Like everything else, I get bored with them too easy. :/

I have many different sonas. It just depends on who I feel most like somedays. Lately, I've been feeling most like my griffon, Treble. She's my dance sona and I've had such an itch to dance lately but no privacy... u_u

My friend's sona is very obviously a fox, even orange and white like one and people still ask if she is a wolf.
Everyone thinks Volty is a wolf too when I suit. It's really frustrating because my tail is CLEARLY not a wolf tail

Never...but then I'm okay with mine having multiple forms as it were. So he can be human, furry, animal, Pokémon, Banana Bread...if I want him to...and I'd be willing to give each version its own unique backstory suited to the universe the form comes from.

I like my fursona, but I gotta admit it's a pain in the butt explaining to people what kind of hybrid she is. I tell people that Crystal is a Corgi/Kirin hybrid and they always ask "What's a kirin?" and it kinda tiring to explain that it's a creature from deer horse dragon thing from Japanese mythology. I think I'll just change her to a Corgi/Eastern Dragon instead to avoid confusion.

I don't have characters, or make "new" fursonas. I have just the one, and it's just me. That being said, it seems to be difficult for me to stick with a species for a long period of time. I don't really know why. Kangaroo's been the longest one though.

This has happen to most of us and you should give up on Chu Chu design there will be people who will get confuse of what species to some hybraid breed and originaly desgin speices, it will take awhile for people to know but it's up to you

I am very undeceive. Or maybe I'm not, I can't decide.
As a result my fursona gets regular tweaks and updates but I do try and keep the same base. Now the Polar bear part stays (but it took me about two years to pick as my fursona) and Ive kept the Viking part for quite a while now but at the moment Im playing with a storyline and a curse of possession by a dragon / dragon spirit so I can hybridise or go fully dragon for short periods of time. Just for a bit of a change. (The idea came about originally as bears don't really have a tail to speak of and I was thinking about what I could do if I wanted to get one)

I don't think you should change your fursona for other people. If other people don't get it or don't like it, who cares?

I've got two fursonas. One that's more my 'wild' side, and the other one's the usual, calm side of myself. I think that might be helping as to why I don't tire of them, there's always one of the two that suits my mood. One's a tiger and the other is a Finnish Lapphund, which I might add some fox features to, though. The only thing I've been asked so far, is what race of dog she is, since it's a rather rare breed outside of Finland, so yeah.... But we had one so I fell in love with the race and saw how many things me and our dog had in common :D )

Just something you are to accept if you make such creative creatures. I see it not a fail on you part just a step from norm people are use to distinguishing if this make sense to you. =) Chu is neat I hope you keep.

I only has 2 characters: my fursona (generic raccoon w/ blue and yellow and a black hair tuft), and a muscular yellow lab. I has no (real) creativity
