NDK or Homecoming? Halp
For the very first time, our school is having homecoming! (yay I think) Even though we don't have a football team....don't ask me how that works. But yes. The theme is tropical, and my friends told me that I HAVE to go, and that they will drag me there if necessary :P I thought eh, why not, might be kinda fun and went out and bought a dress.
I started chatting with another school mate of mine who I used to hang out with quite a bit before making friends with classmates. Anyhow, she was telling me about how excited she was for NDK and we got to talking about it. She told me I could hang out with her there and she could also give me a ride home since I live like 10min away.
NDK and homecoming are the same day...
I also found out that my Pre Collegiate Health and Careers Program's (PCHCP) monthly academy is on that day as well xP I can't miss that, but I would be out of it around 1pm.
I talked with my mom, and she thinks I should do NDK because...well....I'm not much of a dancer anyways and I would only be going to homecoming to hang with friends and look different than usual :P This is our school's first homecoming, so it's some what of a 'big deal' I guess. NDK sounds like it would be pretty fun...but I'm not really into anime (I just don't have the time, but I would like to!) and I'm not exactly sure what I would do there.... though I would definitely be suiting
I just wanted to get some outside suggestions/opinions as to what I should do, lol. Any ideas? Homecoming? NDK? Neither? What, lol

If so, I'd say NDK. I'm personally just not of a homecoming guy, I went once. They're neat, no doubt, but not for me. And well, explore! Yes, it's a different fandom, but you can learn some interesting things. I went to animeland once, and honestly, I wish I could've gone all three days. There's more I want to see and do! NDK is on my bucket list. I want to explore other fandoms outside our own, even though I'm not into anime, the convention part of it is always neat and interesting. There will be a /lot/ of fursuiters there, you'll see familiar faces.
I know of a couple furs going, but not too many. Or at least that I know of. What did you do at Animeland? I will probably look around the dealer's den but prolly won't attend panels er anything, haha. I don't know what I would be doing there D:
And ah, I see. Well, I would have done more, but I was only there for a few hours haha. I'll answer that a different way, if I could go to NDK, I'd take every opportunity I could to learn more about the fandom, see what they have to offer, maybe meet some new people. Talked with a fur at Animeland, awesome dude.
Well, both of the events sound annual, so you would be able to attend the next one. (Unless you're a senior this year?)
Can you put a list of pros and cons together?
Putting a list of pros and cons? well....NDK wins, lol
You're like the NDK expert xD what would I do though? Like I said, not particularly in my field of interest necessarily
Maybe have your folks drive you there on Friday, so you don't have to worry about parking? [Or, have a friend who's attending on Friday buy it for you there!]
Whenever you have the budget for it, though, I do recommend pre-registering for the following year, the week after NDK ends! That way, pre-registration for the weekend is only $5 more expensive than a one-day pass at the door.
Well, I wasn't really planning on attending NDK at all. I guess if I really like it though, I should go ahead and pre reg for next year, haha. Thanks :)
I had loads of fun going to school dances, but this was when I was growing up mid-1990s in the San Francisco East Bay, and the music was great to dance to at the time. (Also, I was fairly into dancing by high school, having started out as a total dork in the 6th grade.) Though, even when I wasn't dancing, I still had loads of fun hanging out with friends.
BUT! NDK is also pretty accomodating for tangential and even non-anime interests, with a fair amount of people doing non-anime costuming. And if you do decide you want to dance anyway, there is the Masquerave after the costume contest. [If you ever decide to go out of suit, though, I recommend some form of earplugs!]
By the way, at NDK, there will be a fursuit photoshoot on Saturday at 4:00 PM! And last year, there were a lot of suiters there for it, though this year it was scheduled later and we still have to get the word out about it. [I don't know if I'll make it myself, because I'm trying to decide if I want to volunteer to handle folks in large costumes for the Costume Contest. Maybe I might suit up earlier, do 15 minutes of the photoshoot, and then head off!]
If you're pretty good friends with your classmates, it might be a tougher decision. Otherwise, though it's not too big a deal to miss Homecoming dances.
At least for your senior year, though, I actually would recommend going to prom! With me, at least, I remember it being awesome to be around classmates while all up in formal wear. [I went my sophomore and senior years, though!]
I'm not too close with my classmates, I guess, so I don't think I'd really be missing much. But yes, totally going to prom senior year! Prolly not this year, though, lol
Thanks for your input!
I went to prom once, because I had a date that year. It was super meh. Got some cool formalwear photos with my date and my sister, which were cool, but not worth the admission price...
