Jon Talbain and I were victorious
To celebrate my birthday weekend from August 29th to 31st I went to Navan to meet my sister and then went to Galway on Sunday to compete in a beat em up/fighting game tournament and one of the games was ‘Darkstalkers Resurrection’ (we played Darkstalkers 3).
Street Fighter 3 and 4 where there as well but I got knocked out early as Street Fighter is the most popular fighting game in the world and more people in Ireland play that more than Darkstalkers.
My character of choice was obviously by the title of this journal Jon Talbain (or Gallon in the Japanese version).
My strategy was ‘attack, attack, ATTACK and don’t give them room to breathe!
My 1st opponent was then host of the tournament who beat me in the Ultra Street Fighter 4 tournament. I got redemption by not only beating him but beating his chosen character Morrigan who always prevents Jon Talbain from being in other Capcom games (including Marvel vs Capcom 3).
The 2nd match I didn't realize it was a tournament match as I had my mind set on a casual match so I played Victor the Frankenstein by accident and made the best against a Sasquatch player. In the end I won.
I got beaten in my 3rd match by a Demitri (the Vampire) player but I would get a 2nd chance as I faced my friend Underground Outlaw (who loves to kill Amaterasu in Marvel vs Capcom 3) who was beaten but redeemed himself by beating the one who beat him so we fought to see who would get into the finals.
He picked Bishamon and I got concerned when he pinned me down by constantly dashing towards me and slashing away but as soon as I got my bearings I continued my strategy and beat him. In round 2 he changed to Demitri (his fave is Anakaris but Anakaris is a bad mix up against Jon Talbain) and I knocked him out of the tournament to get into the finals at which point I looked at the screen and said ‘Good dog Talbain good dog.
Now I was facing the one who beat me in what I like to call ‘The Twilight match up’ referencing the war between Vampires and Werewolf’s in the movie series ‘Twilight’.
Since I was beaten before I have to win 4 matches to win this while my opponent won 2 matches sothe pressure was on me.
I stuck to my same strategy, dash, attack, chain combo, pounce, jump, beast cannon in different directions, jump back and Dragon cannon. I won the 1st 2 matches but he won the 3rd so I had to be more aggressive than before. He did catch me off with Demitri’s 2 EX moves ‘Midnight Pleasure’ and ‘Midnight bliss’ (where Jon Talbain was turned into a woman). Still I kept my cool and continued my strategy (as well as walking over and throwing him) and beat him in the 3rd match which led to the final match to decide who will win. I stuck to the same strategy as always but I noticed my health was flashing in the last round and I was losing so I corned him and did jumping attacks out of desperation as I was too jumpy to stick to the strategy I was doing before hand and after a few 3 hit chains, pounces and a follow up attacks all I heard was ‘KO’ and Jon Talbain and myself where victorious! We shook hands, I got €10 and played ‘Guilty Gear XX Accent core’. I’m the best Darkstalkers player in this tournament group, the man I faced in the final is 2nd and Underground Outlaw (who killed Ammy) is 3rd.
I didn't expect to win as I hadn't practiced recently and I was knocked out of both Street Fighter tournaments but that shows good things come to those who wait. There was only 6 or 8 competitors in this tournament compared to Street Fighter 3 & 4 but the fact I won with Jon Talbain, one of the few anthropomorphic characters in fighting games helped build confidence and an identity for myself that CELTICBORUEIRE (my X-box live name) represents antro animal characters and this tournament showed why Jon Talbain should be in another Capcom games...especially the Marvel vs Capcom series. Sadly because of Disney that might not ever happen but you never know which is kind of like Road Rovers fans wanting that cartoon to come back and like Talbain were still waiting. Maybe if Road Rovers was in a cross over with a popular brand people would recognize them and they might get popular, same with Jon Talbain.
Still aside from winning and boosting my own moral I showed that furry characters aren’t softies and that they belong in the fighting game community. If there was ever a ‘Blaze Blue’ tournament, I might play there werewolf ‘Valkenhayn R. Hellsing.
All in all my birthday weekend was memorable so I’ll finish by saying by saying ‘Thanks for reading and POWER TO THE FURRIES’.

Still I had a great day and it encourages me to practice more especially when there's money involved.
So how good are you at Sims and Rollercoaster Tycoon?
Eh, I can build decent things on RCT3, though haven't in a while, and always lack the patience to make something bigger lol
