Speed Commissions?
Im strapped for cash. The car accident has wiped my bank clean. Ive cut back as much as I could; no more buying 3D models, and I took Halo 5, Call of Duty, and Destiny off my wish list.
But my computer's antivirus is about to expire, and my tank is nearly empty. Things at the family business have gotten much, much worse, so Im pretty much out of a job at this point. With school started, my schedule is tight too.
So Ive been considering different commissions. Simple stuff that might ease some of this off. A few things I came up with were Speed Renders and CYOP (Choose your own palette).
Choose your own palette will appear sometime in the future. Its basically I auction off a blank white character, and you pick its markings and colors. While I think this will be fun, it will require a bit of setup, and painting markings on a 3D texture can be quite difficult.
Im liking the idea of speed renders. Basically they would be single image stuff (like I had before), only I would only spend about an hour on them as a break from homework. An hour might not sound like long, but that is enough for me to put together a pretty good scene. Rendering would not count, I can render an image while I work on homework or play a game.
See my DA journal for examples of what I can do in an hour: http://pwrof3d.deviantart.com/journ.....ions-480431097

As for commissions here.... Eh, not many people understand the whole 3D thing and really many people are still in the "Harass anyone who uploads 3D stuff" mindset, so copying-and-pasting your descriptions over from DA won't end well (i.e. the Give In submission? Only a matter of time before some user decides to go trigger happy on that because of your "breaking the rules" >_> )
I'd commission something or two, but I'm pretty much sunk for the time being because I'm trying to replace my laptop. I might be able to set aside 30 ~ 50 for some T-rex shenanigans, because I looove Digi-I's rex a ton <3
I think Ill be okay with the "AUP police". I read through the AUP carefully, so I know they have nothing against me (unless I start using second life or something). The main thing Im concerned about is renders are very different from normal digital drawings (as you know), so Im sure Ill run into commissions that I simply cant do. Plus, I really cant do OC's, which will greatly reduce my appeal.
I know how you feel with the laptop. Im hoping when I move, we'll have extra money for a tower. Laptops are nice, but I think a tower would be better.
MalwareBytes is actually a VERY good thing to pick up to supplement whatever AV you're currently using, since it has a free edition and doesn't "conflict" with other Anti-Viruses. Norton isn't really that bad actually, the problem most folks seem to have is if they want to use another and have to replace it, Norton just refuses to budge - even if you use its uninstaller.
Yeah, it's still annoying seeing their posts come up though - especially when they're the "Post and Run" types. Drop a 'helpful reminder' (or a snarky remark) then never respond back to anything. Out of the 18 or so straight submissions where you listed like every single possible object in the whole scene, there was ONE slipup where you forgot and *boom* :B
Desktops will *always* be better than a laptop, unless you're running Linux or something XD
They've got more room for 'the goods' for starters, being able to cram more optional stuff into them like secondary hard drives (My desktop has two) and if you need to replace or update the harddrive or graphics cards it's a lot easier than on a laptop (IIRC there's something you can update on a desktop that you *can't* on a laptop, but I can't remember exactly what it was...)
Its not that Ive forgot posting (a few times I did though). Now I just don't feel like I need to. The AUP doesn't specifically say 'state your sources'. I was getting really tired of trying to remember every last model I used in the scene. And if I knew what it was from but didn't remember the name, Id have to go to Daz and find it. It was very tedious and usually took me an extra 5 to 10 minutes to upload each image. 20 if the scene was large enough.
If the AUP does say I need to state sources and I somehow missed it, then I would surely go through my gallery and fix that. But I don't feel like its needed.
But yeah, Ive only had people say something when I didn't point out what I used. There has only been 2 people complain so far though.
And that's what I heard: you can swap stuff out in desktops. That would be nice Ill admit. Then if something catches fire I can take it out and put the new one in and not worry about sending the whole thing to Texas or Carolina for a few weeks. I admit I don't know much about the internals of a computer, so I doubt things will go smoothly for me there.
So you have 2 drives? Do you store the same data on both so if one goes the other is there? Or do you just double your memory space?
A summary instead of a huge list :)
The AUP is confusing for a lot of people, so you're not alone there XD
I think I recall something being said about that though... I can't remember exactly =/
Ah, I meant to say that it had two slots for CD's to be put in. It doesn't actually have two HDD's - though I did have the option of including a second, it was already pushing close to $2,000 so I had to cut it short somewhere hah!
