Macabre is fun… sometimes.

Just been playing through some old goodies, and dangit Fallout 1 and 2 is just so damn great games to enjoy. Top notch storyline, gameplay, dialogue, characters and overall RPG elements make them what they still are today. Herve should rot in hell for all times for what he (and several others) did to Interplay and especially Black isle studios. When I back at all the great games that IPLY and BI did, and what remains I feel kinda sad about it. Had lots of good gaming experiences with their products.
Anyways, back to the juicy and fun bit that fallout 2 is full of. I remember I had an encounter sometime with some farmers fighting of Super mutants (big green humanoid muffos), and then this kid runs (turn based gameplay) straight towards this minigun holding 8 feet muscle mountain and hits him in the knee, causing him to scream and fall flat to his back on the ground. Pretty tough kid. And of course what happens next is that the super duper mutant gets up, fires a full mag of 5.55mm minigun bursts straight into this (now screaming) kid and totally cuts him to bits with only his legs left that falls to the ground. Did I mention that Fallout 2 is a violent game? Perhaps, but its fun. A completely innocent kid gets turned into pulp and Im laughing my ass off! Why because the entire situation and actions is so far over the top that you can´t help yourself. The macabre and extreme violence actually works as a comic effect. A great game. And if you want the macabra I recommend Planescape:Torment from Black Isle as well. One of the best games ever made.
And as for the other medias. Just look at the Commando movie with Ahn-nuld. Its all over the top, cheesy and completely non-serious but we love it. Don´t know about placing a kid in front of a minigun in commando, but it could have worked considering all the other messed up things that go on there (hedges that are bullet proof?). Geesh, it is a shitty movie. But its a very good shitty movie that I can watch many times over.
