WHY! is FNAF popular?

General
WHY is it really?
is it the game?, the characters?, the story?, or the concept of it all?
Well I like the idea and concept, even tho the game could be better,
as it does feels like a acradey chuckecheese whackamole game.
but it could be the "monsters" are different, they're not zombies,
or a ghost, demons, aliens, or some generic bad guy, we over use and seen already.
or maybe it's a fun strategy jump-scare game, and we like to see people reactions, if it's funny, stupid, etc, etc.
or maybe people like it because it's "different" ?.
and yes popularity does gain haters, or people that doesn't like it or getting tired of it, but I respect that,
but some how talking about hating something popular, I think just makes the fan base stronger,
example it's like telling a kid not to like this, but that just want them to like it more, like a M rated violent video game.
but every fandom comes and goes,
later something else new would be popular and over shadowing this,
then everyone would bitch about and start saying
"why is this popular?"
let people have their stupid fun... like furries and bronies
even those two over shadow the internet for a while long ago
I find it funny tho some bronies are complaining sounding like they're jealous because
they don't got the internet spotlight anymore... gheese...
I got a friend who is a brony but he's not hardcore crazy like the other mlp's worshipers... or Sonic fan OC's
but yeah my answer would be "why I like Five Nights at Freddy's" is for the concept, I think it's a neat idea, but like I said it could be better.
the game isn't great, but it's isn't bad.
and I'm glad FNAF had fame... but maybe to much fame, but like I said if mlp and sonic can hang about why not FNAF?

FA+

But Id like to think its big because it has one thing alot of horror games have been lacking; Atmosphere.
Sure jump scares and all of that, but its also the tension created, "where are they coming from? - Where are they? - *Frantically looking at the cameras to see their positions* - I hear footsteps and other sound effects that my brain is trying to make out - They look so creepy standing there staring at the camera" etc etc etc.
I think it does alot of things right.
And alot of people love it.
And again, youtube Lets Players have pretty much been promoting it too
But also, the furry community.....if it has Bi-Pedal animals, the fandom is almost guaranteed to get ahold of it.
And draw shit tons of fanart.
And.....there is always at least ONE person that gets off or see's a sexy side of things.
Ok Im done XD
of course I like the atmosphere in the game and setting as well, not much games out there about a haunted restaurant.
even tho the logic of the game have flaws... but I think Mike was the guy at the 87 bite and missing the frontal lobe and he's half stupid XD
lol you said one person that gets off, maybe one million is more realistic
talking about the "whole" of it hee hee
I'm not claiming to be a good fur when it comes to horror of any kind. When i feel a horror moment coming up, be it LP or if i'm playing the game, I will slowly start to back away from the screen and instantly just jump when it all happens. I'm really bad when it comes to horror, and when i walk the streets at night for fresh air i will jump at shadows even if i have my music on. Take tonight i just at a big white rubbish bag just sitting in the street behind a car. I jumped out of my skin ^^:;;
But back to FNAF. I think it's a combination of trying to survive for the set time limit, the slow draining of the power, the needing to keep your hands ready for the lights and doors, and finally watching for the residents of the place coming for you in their own way. But ultimately, I think the biggest fear in the game is the player themselves, they work themselves up when they can't find one of them on the move, and when they find them they start to get into a panic. And god help them if they see Chica or Foxy sprinting down the corridor, that just sets all kinds of panic alarms off XD
I will watch lp's since i'm still new to the game, but i will certainly not be playing it myself XD
but I can understand everyone is different being scared easily or hard, as I'm kinda on the hard side ( dick joke here)
as jump scares can get me startled once or twice to none, but I think jump scares are cheap, but fun and funny to see the reactions on others about it.
And yeah i agree when you know they are coming the jump scares lose their appeal even if they still get you to jump a little. But personally i think that FNAF is kind of like a throwback to older games we had. Not so much a horror game, but one that appeals as a little test of bravery XD
Had it not been for the extra background story and in-depth analysis of the characters this game probably would have been a cheap thrill. But for what it is, it is still impressive, and I'm even willing to go as far and say its better than the current string of next gen crap we have right now. ^^;;;
but yeah FNAF is't a perfect or a great game, it could be better, but I like the concept and idea,
and wish theres more features, but yes it does feel like a arcadey game like going to chucke e cheese and playing whackamole or tag game.
but theres fan made mods or maps for g-mod, and other games, that makes the franchise more appealing with the free roaming options.
