Having the peace of mind to walk away from a bad deal
11 years ago
I got an inspection on the house yesterday. It was not pretty. :(
First off, a super obsolete fuse box that would require thousands of $ to replace. The box doesn't have a main fuse to switch off power to the house, which means the city would need to kill your power line each time you needed to do electrical work. Not to mention the brand of breaker box went out of business in the early 90s because they got busted falsifying reports on how often their boxes fry out.
But the worst thing is the foundation. The house is a slab on grade, which means the house is sitting on top of 2x4s, which is on top of a concrete slab. it has a history of foundation problems, the warranty on the last repair work is about to expire and it has major cracks all in the driveway.
I think... I'm best served getting an apartment right now. I don't have a peace of mind for a house at this time.

Yeah, when you find the right place, you'll be happy when you know it.
