Ah poop.

Well, I know the title hints at a bummer and there were a couple, but first the good stuff. As some people might know, I'm a first year nursing student (third year student since I switched majors) and this was my first week of school. It went awesome. Not to brag, but my forte at school was math and science and those are the only kind of courses I have left. I'm aiming at a 4.0 so I might have to take a weekend off to study here and there but I think I can swing drawing on the weekends. Bonus to this profession and training, I'm going to learn a lot of anatomy. Tons of it. And because of my drawing background, I've already studied a bunch of medical sketches. I'm hoping further studies will help my drawing in return.
Because of the craziness that is my schedule, I'll likely open more Iron Artist commissions using SAI and quick prompts. They were more fun, a bit more relaxed, and my customers get something a bit more like I would draw for myself. I get kinda worried sometimes drawing commissions that someone wont like me trying new things. These are cheap enough I wouldn't worry about that XD. The price may fluctuate for a while before I get a good balance of time/skill vs. discount, but they should remain well worth the work ;)
Okay, now to the bummer part. My books were four times as much as advertised. Some classes said I could rent the book when that was made clear later it was not possible. And one class said it had one book when it turned out it also needed an online subscription and a piece of hardware. My student loans are on hold for 30 days because this is the first time borrowing. I was hoping to get away with borrowing my text books until then, but nope, had to put them on a high interest credit card. Same with the first two months of childcare.
Then my husband's car was broken into yesterday and they stole all his tools for work (he is an apprentice electrician so he owns all his tools and if he doesn't have them, he can't work, which means no pay). Yep, that went on the credit card too. So we are scrambling to make things work. I canceled my gym membership and that was pretty much the only thing we could cut from our tight budget without starving.
We are going to be doing everything we can to pay this stuff off quickly. My mate has volunteered for all the overtime he can get and has been working to the bone lately (which means I've had to sneak in homework while he is gone). I might get weekend work doing some odd jobs if I'm not busy enough with commissions.
But yeah, such is life. Sucks being broke and working for hardly anything. It might mean you may find a cheap used book from me. I have a small collection that I need to get rid of and need the money.
As for Iron Artist for this weekend, I'm still making sure I'm getting that chunk of time and some of it I want to dedicate to my last couple regular commissions. I'll post slots and prices once I figure that all out, likely after everyone else gets home from work.
