Addictive Science crossover, and the story about Patreon
11 years ago
Just a reminder, we're having a crossover with
cervelet's webcomic "Addictive Science," and that will run three times a week! Yay for magic and science combining into a wonderful goopy mass!
The wonderment begins here: http://atarmslength.smackjeeves.com.....-foxes-more-1/
Okay... about all the Patreon plugs. We want you all to know that regardless of how that plays out, AAL will continue to update at twice a week for the forseeable future. We're not going to hold the comic hostage, life will go on. :)
However... the comic could be so much more if we had the ability to fund it as such. For instance, if we hit our next goal level, we'll do away with the ads. That's just one thing. Along with taking better care of the website, we can also increase the number of comic pages a week, up to 3 or even 4 if enough people contribute. Not to mention other goodies, like PDF-book versions of the strip with exclusive stories, more artwork, etc.
So that's why we're updating at three pages a week for this storyline, to give you guys a taste of how the comic COULD be if we reach the $500 a month level. Trust us, the stories move A LOT faster when we're posting 12-13 strips a month. :)
Some of you may be thinking "The comic USED to update three times a week anyway, so what gives?" Well, here's the thing: when we first started, Brooke was a college student with a lot of disposable free time and few expenses. Now she's graduated, and time she spends working on AAL is time she could spend working on higher-paying gigs. Plus our noble letterer/editor Cubist, who basically volunteers his time for a pittance to make sure you guys get that wonderful Astro City font you love so much (warning: the preceding was an opinion, disregard if it offends your sensibilities) probably wouldn't be opposed to having at least a little financial incentive to keep these strips rolling out.
As for me, well, I've basically been funding this comic out of my pocket for the past 6 years, including production and advertising costs. Don't get me wrong: I knew what I was getting into when I started this, I'm not shocked by this nor the fact that it costs money to get the word out there. I can afford to keep the comic at two pages a week right now, but that's it.
Wanting $500 a month to update 3 times a week may sound like highway robbery, but remember that lucre is split between three comic creators. The more we raise, the more time we can devote to this project. It's just simple economics. :P
As for donating, I know some people may see the higher-level donations and be intimidated. DON'T BE! Folks, we would love for 100 people to sign up at the $4 a month level. That would just make us giddy! Like candy shop owners throwing free sample to the crowd while singing "The Candy Man."
Once again, the comic isn't going anywhere any time soon, and if you're satisfied with the comic as is, it'll stay that way. Just be advised that this is how the comic must exist in it's current status. But for those of you who would like to see more a month, we encourage you to swing by our Patreon page and toss some starving comic creators a few bones. :)
