Yeah...I can't have a landline so I get my internet with a usb device from verizon. Pretty expensive compared to other ways. But the upside is I get internet anywhere there's cell phone service.

Right now in a trailer on a guys property. But for the last 18 years it's been in a cabover camper on my pickup truck. Makes the extension cords hard to manage.

With a solar panel on the roof, twin deep cycle batteries, controller, and inverter, I can run lights, fan, boom-box and my laptop and never have to hook up to anything in the camper. Got it all covered anywhere I am. In my trailer though I AM hooked to 110 so can run an A/C, which is nice.

That and selling double glazing. I'm not one to wander much, but then I'm half an hour away from the beach, glow worm caves, mountain hikes and volcanoes. (Also my small home town has more people in it than North AND South Dakota but less than a quarter of Manhattan. So is it big, or is it small?)


Also, they actually let you live in a parking lot? Our business district would have your car scrapped.

I'm a half hour from the coast, 3 hours from Sequoia and Yosemite National parks, 3 hours from the Mojave Desert. Four or five from Las Vegas. Two hundred odd miles to either LA or San Francisco, depending on if you go north or south. My town is 24,000. Wine country, so full of grapes and drunk tourists....

They used to let me live there. Then the city passed an ordinance banning camping in the city limits and the cops made me their poster boy because I was so visible. Heh, I hear ya, our win country is about an hour up north, with the bananas. But holy crud your land is big. My cousin was there on an OE and his family decided to pop across the state border to visit some lake or something, and they drove for six hours! How the hell do you have so much space?

City councils are douches like that; they like to get the riffraff swept under the rug. Of course here there's no camping space in cities at all so it's not an issue. Homelessness though... And of course it is illegal to have bunnies unleashed within city premises (Also dogs, ferrets and rats.) so you're stuffed either way.

Yeah, a homeless problem is what prompted the ordinance too. We have a lot of homeless here and nobody wants them around. It's quite the problem. There are a lot of people living in campers and even just their cars these days. Be nice if there was a good answer to the problem, but the economics are just too messed up.

I dunno, it's pretty cheap to just build em houses. What with all the money they suck up in prisons, policing, treatment programs and suchlike and how many people will stay in a home once given one it makes a good deal of sense.

Not here it isn't. Too many building restrictions in Cal.make building ANYTHING an expensive proposition. And a lot of people won't stay in things like that because there are such tough restrictions like no drinking, no drugs etc. etc. that they wont abide. Also, oddly enough a lot of the less together ones actually live on the street by choice. Be nice if it was that simple though.

I skimmed it and see what you mean. I think that only works in a big city though, where there is a concentration of lots of homeless and some of the more hopeless people. the ones we have here are pretty much scattered out and many even work jobs. Hell, I was technically homeless all 17 years I worked full time for wallyworld. It wasn't bad for the most part. And it sure was nice not paying rent to a landlord!

Quite possibly; around here it's also difficult to tell the difference twixt homeless and outdoorsmen. Possibly because you can just build yourself a house anywhere outside the cities and few will complain. (Unless it's on tribal land, they don't much like that.)

Really!? You haven't been able to do that in America since......nearly forever. Any land that isn't privately owned or a Native American Reservation is considered federally owned....Bureau of Land Management, National Forest something. You might get away with building a little shack for a while where nobody goes,but eventually you'd be spotted and evicted and the house burned or torn down if it's on National Forest land. Of course this is all land that's supposedly held by the government for the American people, but they don't act like it.

There's a 'lot' of country here where nobody goes. (This country is two islands; it has a population greater than 2 US states, but all in 3 big cities.) You'll get booted off if you, y'know try to use any valuable land such as hunting reservations, commercial property and suchlike. But in terms of just sticking a house somewhere there's plenty of bush and paddocks and such. Heck, our neighbors bought an old house and trucked it in to the paddock next door. I can see their house right now; i has no connected power but that's how it goes. (Petrol generator.) Technically they're staying with our neighbor-neighbors who also own the building that they just happen to be living in.

Of course you do get taxed, the only guy who really tries to avoid this is the Wizard of Wellington who has,numerous times, claimed to live on a boat in the harbor in international waters.

Most dragons can eat anything organic from the material plane, and some soft minerals too. It just happens, that Blacks like to "pickle" their red meat...usually with acid. But I am rarely enjoying that delicacy. For all my partner's sake, I am on white meat diet...*tummy growls*
