What do you buy adoptables for?

kompyI know people buy them because they're cute/cool/sexy/funny/etc., bhat I'm asking is more, what purpose do you, someone who buys them, use them for usually?
To kickstart a story or art idea?
To better define or visualize a character you already created?
Commission fodder?
Plain ol' collecting them?
Or something else entirely?
Purely for curiosity's sake here. That, and I've seen a great deal of adoptables over on DA and here (Weazyl and Tumblr not so much since I haven't checked there) nd am starting to notice a few repeating patterns in terms of design themes and am wondering if it's just me noticing them or not :P

I use mine as a visual for my story that follows the life of my sona and the two girls who both have a thing for him.
I collect adopts purely for the reason that I intend to use them. Due to the simple fact that I can not draw I utilize their visual media whenever I need inspiration or to show a ref for people who can draw. For other reasons I use them to help fit into slots of projects I'm doing. It's also great because by obtaining some of these adopts, I can legally use an artist's species that I like for stories and works.
