Wallet Stolen... Why did I leave the house?

"The dream is alive..."
And 5 hours later it was recovered with only the cash and my government credit card missing.
All cards had been turned off within the first hour. The Government card is only available to use when I'm on Annual Training, so luckily that has been totally useless since August 1st. I'm just really glad they didn't take my company VISA... I didn't know how to get that one turned off... But I would have dug for a way if I hadn't received a call about it being recovered as soon as I did.
Now the cash.... ugh.... my mom had JUST paid me back for paying off a few things for her. She gave me cash so of course it went into my wallet. I felt it was a big slap in the face to both of us that some scum likely fished the wallet out of our basket, took the cash (and 1 card oddly) before turning in my wallet to the fitting room staff like some good Samaritan.
Call this the worse kind of inspiration, but it had my brain thinking scenes to try making the money back through Flat Rate YCHs. I want to make back $250 so I can show mom and be like "Look, I'm fine. I will be feeding myself for the next few weeks."
Overall, my biggest relief is that my IDs are safe and sound and I don't keep my SSN on me. All my online banking has terribly hard passwords, phone banking has 3 levels of protection included a made up code word, and in person requires ID as well as my code word. I really don't know what other steps I need to take, if any. Never wanted to severely hurt a faceless stranger so hard in my life.
Whoever you are, I hope you had a good reason to take that $250. Children, medical...whatever... if not... I only wish terrible things to happen to you; So much of it, stress is what will be the death of you.
