Critiquing is nothing to be afraid of, as long as the person critiquing isn't an asshole. I've had some teachers tear down students work or things like that but as my better teachers and classmates of shown, critiquing is a 2 part process. 1. Tell them what they did right so they know what to keep doing. 2. Point out things they may have messed up on so they know that to fix :3

You hit it on the nose. A critique is ONLY as good as a suggestive solution. It's easy for anyone to tell you what they conceive as "wrong" but is it really? I mean to say if one person tells you your color scheme is a mismatch, the next person might love the color scheme but not care for the shading. Of course critiques should NEVER be masked as simple opinions. We all have them - opinions - and some people are just down right stupid when it comes to giving their opinion. Perhaps someone just barfed on their artwork or they have no real skill at all. They then will barf up on your artwork when it's clearly unwarranted. You should be careful not to take what every single person has to say about your artwork especially if their not being mature about it. But then again if they have a quality mention or suggestion or even a method then BINGO you got a winner! Yah! And we all like that, don't we?
