R.I.P. To The King

This morning I lost a long-time friend, My 18+ year old Chocolate Point Siamese cat, Simba, was taken to the vet this morning to be relieved of his duties here on earth. He had been wasting away for some time now yet showed no signs of slowing down until only the last few days. I got him as a kitten and he was very devoted to me. A litle stand-offish to new people but soon warmed up to them (especially if bribed with food). He was an indoor cat and never saw the outside world much unless it was a trip to the vet so he grew to hate being took outside.Typical of him, he'd smell my lips when I went to bed to make sure I was ok. And you didn't DARE leave his food dish empty or you'd know about it... good and loud! These are just of the few things I will remember him by. There are too many more to list.
When I came to live with Dineegla, Simba had to get used to a household of dogs. It took time but they got to totally ignore each other... save when the dogs got too close and Simba would decide enough was enough and take a swipe at them. Just to put them in their place. Vassals have to know the rules after all.
One of the things he did was to convert Dineegla (who is a bonfide dog lover) into loving cats as well. An amazing feat in itself.
Will we get another cat? I honestly don't know at this point. As I turn 61 this Friday, I don't know if I want the commitment of taking care of another cat well into my 70's. And then there's the inevitable heartache of them passing away eventually. We'll be going thru that with the dogs at some point down the road. Also, do I want to expose a cat to a house of dogs? Perhaps if it's a kitten and it grows up with them...
My one consolation is he spent his last night btwn us in our bed, his favourite spot to be.
As we said goodbye, I asked him to say hello to Chi (my previous siamese). I hope he understood. I know they're playing together now.
Special thanks go to my husband, Dineegla, who helped me thru this. It's stilll rough tho.
Thank you, Simba. Thanks for the memories.

My condolences to you. I hope you never forget the love and times you two shared and hope that his memory lives on in you for all time. Take care of yourself, Wolf. Be well and my apologies on the passing of your friend and family, Simba. I know he will be missed.
Even though your reign has come to an end, you will always have a place on the throne in our hearts. You were an amazing cat. Rest in peace Simba. You deserve it, King.
Too much cats dies hurts by a car.
Statistics says you'll live about 20 years, just imagine spend all this time cat-less, I'm sure your next kitten is already born and wait after you !
In was interesting that Lucky, our German Shepherd, KNEW that there was something wrong. He stuck around Simba while we figured out what to do.
Simba was a gentleman in all ways. I will miss him, but I really want to adopt another cat, honey. (hint, hint)
I lost a cat too...
For such small little “people”, they can leave mighty big holes in our hearts when they leave us.
As a cat-lover who has had to say “Good-bye” to around fifteen kitties, I know your pain.
Tears and deepest sorrows, but remember, Simba will be there to greet you when it comes time for you to cross over that Golden Bridge -- with a small bag of catnip.
*hugs* I offer my condolences for your loss.
