One of the things I love about living in New York, is there always something to do. I am vacation the week of my Birthday October 28th. The Independent Movie House Film Forum showed Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein with a Three Stooges 3D Short. It was great to see both of them on a big screen, but the kids were the best part. I guess they never saw a 3D movie. The screamed with laughter when the stooges run into the camera in the beginning of the short. The short was "Spooks" where the Stooges are detectives looking for a kidnapped girl who in the clutches of a mad scientist who plans to put her brain in a Gorilla. The kids were shocked when the scientist and his henchmen throw knives, hatchets, and charged at them with hypo.
The kids made it so much fun with the jokes, the audience consisted of 50% kids and parents and others who love this movie. The history of this film was started a idea for stage play for Abbott and Costello. It never happened because of schedule conflists between their film work and radio show. The movie was suppose to be a sequel to the film "House of Dracula" called the Brain of Frankenstein, it does a real horror film feel to it. Bela Lugosi as Dracula, Lon Chaney as the Wolfman, and Gleen Strange as the Frankenstein Monster. Dracula plans to put Wilbur Grey's (Costello) brain in the Frankenstein monster.
The kids nearly lost it when Wilbur went into the Wolfman's room after the full moon rise to place the Wolfman's bag. We see the Wolfman stalking Wilbur. Always missing his prey. Wilbur no wiser, he takes an orange from the room. The kids screamed for Wilbur not to go into the room. When he returns the orange I thought the kids were going to totally lose it. "Don't open the door!" the kids were saying. My sister remembered being scared by this film. I think that played the horror elements very straight, with Abbott and Costello bits jammed in. Like Wilbur reading the Legend of Dracula next to his coffin, as Dracula rises from the cffin creaking.
From the Svengoolie Show hating this movie and script, Abbott felt his three year old daughter could have written a better script. I always love this film, it is my favorite of the Costello Films. It has one of my favorite double entendre Wolfman (Chaney): You don't understand at night, I turn into a wolf.
Costello: You and 20 million other men.

OP
yes. The kids never saw the classic style 3D films which things are thrown directly at the camera. The henchmen has a blow torch which shoots flames at the audience, the Stooges respond with a fire extinguisher.
