I'm sorry you had to figure that one out the hard way! Yeah, particularly if it's a high-powered gasoline washer - that vibration can do bad things to a person's hands and arms. Some power tools can have the same effect (I've messed up my hands by using a random-orbit sander for a whole day).

I don't have any good advise, except to see if you guys have something like an industrial hygienist or ergonomic person (might be in the H&S department). If you report it to them, they might be able to help you. Or they might just give you the finger and tell you to stop being a crybaby. But if you don't want to jump right to looking for another job... it's worth asking and seeing what happens.

Well, any hand-based work will do a number to your hands. Ask anyone at the electrical department that works with wiring for 10-12 hours a night. One of the big things that really irks me about this job is that I get no days off. None. 7 days a week is just not worth it, even if it is a short shift. A lot of people have quit, and a lot more are having the same problems I do with my hands, and though most of them aren't artists to any real capacity (that I know of), they do feel the pains of it.

I am DEFINITELY looking into employment elsewhere, and swearing off Tony's pizza, Red baron pizza, and anything from Schwan's for the rest of my life.

Sorry to hear about your job but I guess that's the "new normal" of work in the 21st century. Employers crap all over their employees because they think the economy is bad and what choice to people have. And you're right about different things messing with your hands. I have worked in control panels for days on end, but you kind of know that all that wiring is going to tear up your hands, whereas most people wouldn't think something like a sander, drill, etc. would do the same.

And yeah, if you've been cleaning out the grease traps at places like that... I can't blame you!

The factory I work in makes processed food, particularly pizzas. The area I'm assigned to deals with large quantities of cheese, and various pizza toppings. It all ends up a large, soggy, chemically saturated mess, requiring power hoses to spray EVERY INCH of machines, the floors, and some of the walls down. It is not a fun job, and I know people who work around me who have given up on cheese all together because of how disgusted they are with it.

Cheese, sauce, toppings. Working long hours in the bakery, you end up working with chunks of grease that has caked on under the ovens that not even a hot-water pressure sprayer can do much to.

You can whine as much as you ever want on your own page. And you have a good reason too.. I hope you get the situation sorted!
