I hope that they were not lost; it's a tragedy to lose one so young

S/he is presumed dead. I think the article says the pod has been observed for a week and there's still no sign of zim. Even if s/he's only lost, they wouldn't have the kind of luck Luna had. This one is an infant and still depends on mother's milk. I hope s/he's just been separated and maybe found J pod at least. I'm pretty sure J is extended family. They wouldn't hesitate to take care of zim.

Hope doesn't do much, unfortunately. The best outcome, other than being found in J pod, is that mummy knows for certain that her calf has passed and she gets right back to breeding. Cold? Yes. But that's what it takes to save the species. I do have my spiritual reserves for comfort, but those are the brass tacks facts.

For now, eyes on J. Or, depending on the area of the storm, perhaps a passing pod of transients found little L-120. If this group were mobile, I'd organize an orca search party.
