Yo Ripping off Someone's OCs is Kinda Not Cool

Okay, so correct me if I'm wrong on ANY of this information, I haven't dug to deeply into it or know the exact details.
But I'm pretty sure that Mystery Skull's Video that's gotten really popular was a video made by independent artists, and I'm guessing the characters in the video are that (or the other artist's involved) Original Characters?
As a community that's very protective of original characters, I find it really REALLY odd that I see people taking Lewis from the video and making furry knock off versions of him? Profitting off this guy's independent video and character design?
I mean, when Five Night's At Freddy's came out, it kinda made sense to me why it would spark people making icons and etc off it. Not to mention the person who created it is making money off his game. There are multiple animatronics so it makes sense why there would be people designing their own animatronic for fun.
Lewis is an independent, SINGLE character in the story. It's not like Sonic world where there's multiple characters with the same 'template' he is literally his own single self. So it makes absolutely no sense to me why people think it's okay to just take this character and make rip off's of him just because the video got pretty popular? It's still someone's OC isn't it?
Again, correct me or link me some sources that say otherwise I'd really appreciate it! If this guy gave the okay that you can make similar designs to his OC or whatever then completely disregard this, but as an animator, it makes me a tad uneasy people are taking Lewis and profiting off rip off designs of him…
That's all. Chu Chu OUT.

FA+

"Can I fuck it?"
Thus, porn of everything.

This is just one general answer about OCs and one about icons, but there a lot more; he gets a LOT of asks now, as you can probably imagine rofl ;w ;
But this fandom thing is just dumb. Furries ruin everything... FNAF and now this?
Don't get me wrong, I love furs, but It's just sad that there has to be porn of every new thing that comes out, like they rush to get the first smutty picture out because they want to be "popufur"
It's a animated music video that's gotten very popular!

No doubt you're probably FLOODED with Asks and stuff because of your killer GHOST video and other fine work! Hate to bother ya but I take icon commissions on Furaffinty as P-Aei and lots of people are asking if I could make icons like in your animated GHOST video. I wanted to get your OK first though since it'd be inspired by, if not completely based on your work. I completely understand if you're against it. Please just lemme know! So glad I found your work! Sincerely - Aelith
As stated before, it is perfectly fine for people to do commissions for Ghost fan work and receive compensation for doing so.
Next week I think I’ll start looking into getting some kind of FAQ together so that it is easier for people to hunt down all my stances on questions like this. I’m.. not entirely sure what is the best way to do so at the moment but I’ll look into it."
I think it's wrong to make porn artwork of the characters in the video
People profit off of the ideas of others all the time. Take it from small disputable adoptables that seem to be a little close to something else someone else made, popular OC's(hey it's a mega corporation, it's ok to take money from them, right?) or perhaps smaller independent stuff like this where they might not see their work ripped off or borrowed.
Heck there's even been artist gallery stuff where an artist has made millions off of essentially copying someone elses sci fi illustration covers and posting it as art with shifted colours/slight changes. Profiting off of others ideas.
Lastly, I'm not sure of the official nature of the video. It's obviously an interesting idea for a animated short, but you also can see how heavily it draws, references, or borrows from Scooby Do, and you can even argue that the song being a creative part of the whole thing that also isn't theirs (if they are not somehow related to Mystery Skulls, ect).
So what is 'right' is a grey area really.
Heck, I'll go a step further in a similar venture. People who use Meme's or Stock Images, or other image macros to gain popularity on twitters/other social media like reposts on imgur. It all stems from grey shades of the same murky tapestry that is stealing/using/referencing/inspired ideas.
I don't bring it up often, and usually avoid drama stuff, but it's always been something that sort of irked me. It's also why there's such a huge taboo on straight up copying someone elses line art (even if you change who/what it was from the original art).
as for FNAF, as someone who isn't scared by it, I honestly find most the original character animatronics a bit boring actually :o
and then there's the creepy writing of it....oh boy
I got why people were scared, but...eh. I guess I'm jaded from all the jumpscares I encountered
I found some fans a bit venomous though one screamed at me for not being scared
it was a mixture of painful...and hilarity :o
I'm a pretty good example of that spectrum with my rip-off Toothless character!
