Action Packers on Airlines?

So... not quite the pre-MFF journal I had in mind, but I've been looking at certain containers for my recently acquired fursuit. A 24-gallon action packer would be ideal with a collapsible luggage cart, however one thing in particular that is bugging me is that the container is a total of 63.2", wheras both American Airlines and Southwest state their limit is 62" before applying oversize baggage charges.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a fursuit box? I need it to be a minimum of 14" deep and 14" wide to avoid damaging my fursuit head. I was looking at a Samsonite 30" suitcase however it is only 12" wide - and costs $200 or so.
Has anyone had any problems with airlines charging them oversize for a 24 gallon Action Packer? I really need to get something for my fursuit soon. At RF I drove down, so I simply took my fursuit in the original packing box it arrived in. Unfortunately I do not have the same luxury of driving going to either MFF or FC.

Contact the airlines and ask for their recommendations.
I've flown Southwest with action packers a number of times, and never had an issue.
Make sure you put metal TSA locks on it, though.
