Notes and policies about the NOVA furs group

Check HERE for the most up-to-date meetup info.
Just some tidbits to help clarify a few things we hope to accomplish with the group:
Who are we? - We are a group of individuals who would like to see social gatherings occur across Northern Virginia. We each have our own set of day-to-day challenges and we try to make time to set up events to have fun but also to meet people in the area.
What media outlets do we plan to use? - We currently have the FA page, a Facebook group, a Meetup group and we are in the process of having a Twitter account and a Google+ group too. While we understand people have their own personal preferences with social media, we do not want to spread ourselves too thin. The two main sources we plan to use are the FA page and the Meetup group in part because the Meetup page is done by a monthly subscription and we plan to use it as much as possible to get the most value from our investment.
Can I run my own event(s) in the area? - Absolutely you can! We will happily post information about it but keep in mind that it will not be an official NOVA furs event. The reason for this is liability and while we encourage people to create their own events there will be times where a moderator of the NOVA furs will not be present. To ensure fairness we will post information about any unofficial events but please do not state that it is a NOVA furs event. Any questions on this matter for clarification please send us a note.
What sort of official event(s) do we plan to run? - We understand that everyfur has their own preference on the type of event that we run. We hope to balance some of our outgoing/public events with smaller private events to accommodate everyone. For the public events we also understand that people are sometimes on a budget so we try to have our events be more of a pay-for-play event where you are not required to pay anything to attend but each individual will be responsible for their own cost. We have considered events where we reserve an area and pay a fee ahead of time but the hassle of receiving reimbursements from everyone could present certain problems that we are currently going to avoid.
We also have some bigger events in the works (more details when they are available) but we can say that they are a multi-day trip, full-day trips and the like since we feel it would be a good thing to shoot for.
If you have any other questions please post below and we'd be happy to clarify anything. Thank you and hope to see you at a future meet!
