Tonight, at 8:47PM, EST, the space shuttle Discovery launched into the heavens.
It was a glorious sight, the eastern horizon lighting up in a false dawn, only to reveal a blazing comet of fire, soaring high into the sky like a phoenix, only to cast off its wings to become a glorious, brilliant blue-white star, racing through the night, until finally, it settled below the horizon and was lost from view.
I love night launches.
