Well, darn. Maybe if you google it you can find some other site that has it. This was released on VHS a long time ago, and it looks like a DVD has been made for the European market but not North America. :(

I loved Animalympics! There's something irresistable about its thorough commitment to looking and sounding like a real broadcast, the huge variation in the animal athletes, and of course that great soundtrack. The "mood piece" montage was beautiful. It seems like the sort of film that can only be done once, and as much as I wish they kept on going with it, I couldn't be happier with how well it turned out. Thanks for sharing!

A bit of history...folks involved with this production went on to other great things....like "Tron", "The Iron Giant", and "The Lion King."

Saw this movie many many times on cable in the 80s, the Mohammed Ali-Howard Cosell inspired boxing segment is probably my favorite.

Was always bummed by the fact that due to the USA not participating in the Olympics in 1980,many local theatres either didn't show Animalympics or only did for a week or two.I didn't see it until it showed up on HBO sometime in '81 I think.

Always a favorite of mine. I remember seeing it when it first aired on NBC, chopped into two separate specials to air at some lull during the Olympics that year. Later, a friend of mine taped the movie itself for me off of an HBO airing. Still very enjoyable. I used to have the soundtrack by 10CC as well.

Was an awesome film when I saw it on HBO/Showtime back in the early '80s. Still awesome.

I never heard of "Animalympics" until one fur spoke to me about it in 2007. The movie 'Animalympics' was the theme for Anthrocon in 2004 as the summer games.

My favorite scene is the sh*t-eating grin Kit Mambo puts on when she talks about beating Rene Fromage by "getting an early lead, then break his concentration." (She's got a GREAT ass, and she knows it!) Those of us old enough to have watched ABC's "Wide World of Sports" in the 1970s can appreciate this film a lot more than today's audiences, because so many gags and references were influenced by that show. Before ESPN came along, "WWoS" was the only way most viewers could see many of these sports events, except of course the Olympics themselves. "The agony of the feet" is a direct takeoff from the famous opening of "Wide World of Sports," in which it describes "the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat." The huge elephant weightlifter was obviously modeled after the Russian athlete Vasily Alexiev, the strongest man in the world at the time and a frequent highlight on "WWoS." Billy Crystal did a very good imitation of sports broadcaster Howard Cosell, long remembered as one of the most annoying and irritating people in broadcasting history (and if you never heard him or saw him, count your blessings!). Crystal also imitated the voice of trash-talking boxer Muhammad Ali for a character who said, in one of _Animalympics_'s funniest gags, "I'm gonna make his face look the way his last name sounds!" A nice touch was the various animated introductions to different sports, similar to what TV sports programs did in those days (letters would dance all over the screen and finally spell out "gymnastics," for example). A very brief scene shows a stern-faced walrus opening the Games by extending both arms with his hands showing "V" for "Victory" and mumbling, "Let the fur fly," an obvious rip on President Richard Nixon. Furry broadcasters were based on real TV hosts: "Gene Hacksaw" was based on Keith Jackson, who regularly covered sporting events for ABC (including "WWoS" and the Olympics); "Burnt Woody" was based on Curt Gowdy; and "Barbra Warblers" was based on Barbara Walters, using Gilda Radner's classic "Baba Wawwa" voice she created for "Saturday Night Live." _Animalympics_ is full of gags like these, and the soundtrack is absolutely magnificent. Steve Lisberger went on to create _Tron_, another one of my favorite movies. [These days I've seen some funny cartoons purporting to show gold medal-winner Dean Wilson in poor health in later life, confessing to having used steroids.) I remember seeing some original animation cels from _Animalympics_ for sale in the dealers' room at DragonCon in Atlanta in 1996. All in all, it's a wonderful movie that's clean, well-done, funny, and still holds up quite well.

Not to mention a dynamite soundtrack! I still love all the funny side bits, like Bruce Quackamodo's expression on the last "photo" illustrating his athletic training "...turns the mind inward!" The cels still show up on e-bay from time to time...heard through the grapevine that the entire cel sequence of Dean's underwater fantasy was accidentally destroyed by being stored in damp conditions. (Augh!)

"Animalympics" was originally two specials for (NBC) TV: a half-hour special for the "Winter Games", and an hour-long one for the "Summer Games". Eventually, both shows were edited together into a full-length feature film - which I like, to this very day (and own a VHS copy of). .

The gags with various fauna in sporting events is somewhat reminiscent of those old Paramount cartoons of the 1940s and 1950s with animals playing baseball, football, etc.

Among the other souvenirs I have, regarding "Animalympics", are the soundtrack album, two copies of the paperback book "The Animalympics' Guide to the Olympics" (with stills from the movie, including scenes that didn't appear in it), a two-page trade ad (for the Steven Lisberger film) from Variety, and a few actual production animation cels (two of 'Tushanko' the gymnast, and one of 'Rugs Turkel' - the later cel with the background art of one of the stadiums).

Personally, I would love to see a sequel to this cartoon - possibly even in CGI (in 3-D) - but I'm not holding my breath for that to actually happen!
