Question about adoptables!
Oh I had a thought, and I just wanted to ask what ppl who buy adopts think about this???
I know how I draw adoptables vs how I draw in general can be very different...
So, would you have more or less interest in my adoptables if they were painted in the style similar to how I do commissions??
It would probably be a little messier as far as details go... cuz painting vs lines?? But maybe it would be more unique and enjoyed by buyers?
I would still do both styles off and on if I did them, of course!
So, thoughts??
oH ALSO I WANTED TO CLairfy about this--
If I tried this, don't think there would be a lot of shading, despite it being painted. Like, I'm sure there would be some? But it would be sorta.. painted flats?? Painting instead of providing lines, mostly.
anOTHER EDIT SWEATS A LOT:
It'd probably be done kinda like this as far as technique goes?

I never really thought about how different my adoptable styled drawings can be from my typical paintings and such.... because of what's "in" with adoptables,I just.. never considered it??
But then the topic of style and how it can change/be influenced when doing adopts came up with a friend, and I suddenly thought 'Oh! What if I did this?'
Compact design- chibi style, whatever you want to call it, a design that is easy on the eyes, simplified in form (not necessarily in details). I think this is important for buyers who like to draw their adoptables but can feel intimidated or pushed out by high-end art designs, or so they perceive. One of the reason some kinds of adoptables are so popular, imho, is that they have a colourful compact design that can be easily reimagined in the buyers and commissioners own styles. It's sort of accommodating, yunno?
Of course adoptables made specifically in an artists direct art style (not a selling style that is deliberately compact or flat) tends to draw art collectors or fans of their artwork.
I have bought painted adopts in the past and they are lovely ;v;b
But your painting style is so pretty, I personally would buy either.
It would be some work to make sure the balance of detail is well maintained.
Thank you a bunch for the input! :D
whatever you do will look nice regardless tho!!
I don't wanna bother with it if a lot of ppl are like 'naw I like what you're doing right now'
> harder to read the character markings/colors from just the shading
> I feel less inclined to take any artistic liberties with the character as I feel it's disrespecting the art piece
> More effort means the price needs to go up because no one should be underselling themselves
I like the occasional one where there's one character for auction who's had a lot of time put into them, but I wouldn't go for a batch of them IMO
It would more be the style of putting down the character--using painting to give them shape over lnes.
But I agree, markings get super lost in the process of shading. @___@;
As long as the character is coherent and the design can be distinguished from the art itself, multiple designs shouldn't be an issue.
It's all a matter of how you choose to execute it but you'll only know for sure in hindsight so I would give it a try and see how it feels
doing a nice shading, lineless and painted effect does make it look a LOT better however it becomes near impossible to tell what the character design is
now if you advertised the character as a painted one than gave a flat color that easily shows their pattern and designs I think it'd be a great idea
(sry i'm not big in the adopts thing so i have nothing to offer except my annoying presence)
Though ultimately it's your choice if you really up for flat-painted adopts or not, to be honest. I personally love seeing your work.
Because honestly when I buy an adopt it's not just the design, but the design combined with the beautiful, striking visual the artist has put onto the piece.
I like your designs already, but your normal painterly style is my favorite out of both, and I'd LOVE to see designs done in that style.
But a lot of people may be hardpressed to feel too pressured to buy adopts which are done in a looser style, because they feel it's not crisp enough, and they may not be allowed to make alterations, or it's hard to see the markings
So to which end, I'd suggest a half and half.
Like your most recent adoptable has multiple pictures drawn in one sheet, perhaps take to doing one in a standard 'clean' adopt style, and the other in an illustrative style, so that the buyer not only feels they're getting a special commission esque piece, but they're able to have a super clean version as well for their own comfort level.
This way if it's not too hard on you, would probably appeal to more customers, as you have the best of both worlds.
Plus the technique used on the sample makes it a bit more interesting, the designs kinda comes at a little illustration instead of just a design if that makes sense.
