Farewell to a friend

I awoke this morning to check my FA messages, and received some very disturbing news about a good friend of mine and many others. His name was Furp. He was 29. Furp was more than a great friend, he was a godsend. At conventions, he was part of first aid staff, and really did his job greatly. Just recently, Furp was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident, perpetrated by a drunk driver in California. He died at the scene of the accident. As hard as it is to take what happened to him, I still have to question, "why did it have to be Furp?" He didn't do anything to deserve such an abrupt end. Because of some drunk driver's negligence, it ended up taking the life of someone that did not deserve to go.

Seeing how great of a friend he was to many, Furp will be greatly missed. I know I'll never forget about him and all the help he offered in helping make everybody's fur con experience a safe and happy one. Rest in peace, my friend. May you always find what you are looking for beyond Heaven's gate.

Rest in peace, Furp. I'll never forget you.

I knew Furp, he was one of the first furs I met in late '98. He was very intelligent and witty, and always there to help. He touched the lives of many, many furs. He was way too young to go. :o(

*hugs softly* Yes he was too young and too great of a friend for this to happen. I really hope they get that drunken Marine and do more than just hold him in contempt. He meant a lot to the friends he made and the furry fandom itself. It's not easy saying goodbye to someone like that.

It's ok. I'm glad it was you that told me about it. It's better hearing it from someone I know that has the same view about him that I do, rather than to hear about it from word-spread. *hugs softly*

I am so sorry for the lose of him. there not much one can say to help to console someone from a situation like this. My regret is never getting to know him better. gives a strong hug to you.

It's never easy dealing with a loss, especially when it involves someone so near and dear to us. What helps is how one's existence in life provides so much more than a warm, caring heart to those who need it, and it's a wonderful feeling when that sense of care is shared amongst others. Many thanks for your warmth and caring. I'm glad to know that there's still a lot more warmth to go around in the coldest times of tragedy and hardship. *nuzzles and hugs*. I didn't know him well, but I had met him a few times during my 5 years going to Anthrocon. He was always a joy to talk to. The community lost a dear furend.......

Yes we did. Not just a good friend, but one that went above and beyond the call of duty and heroism to help provide first aid care at fur cons and was just an all around wonderful person. I just wish it didn't have to happen to him. Thanks for your support and concern. *hugs softly and nuzzles*

My band is about to start recording again. We have a couple of shows this year, one with my old band down in RI next week. Should be interesting. Still working in the bakery at BJ's. The guitarist in my current band is building a new garage with a recording studio in the loft area. I'll be making extra money helping him engineer and produce our band plus local bands. Should be awesome. >"^_^"<

Awesome, man. Great to see things are going good in the musical department. I'm about ready to work on my fifth album myself, using my greatest hits albums as a spacer between full album releases.

Very awful news indeed, and my thoughts are with his friends and family. I never was able to meet Furp, but his legacy is apparently quite large and I know he will be well missed.

Oh you would have loved getting to know him. He was the type of guy that would uphold the safety of others, without being too harsh or unreasonable. He knew a lot about first aid, and came through in times where first aid was greatly needed. He was a shoulder to cry on, and one to share many laughs in the process. He was friend to all that needed one, and everyone could have used a friend like him. I don't know of one single person that ever knew him that ever had anything bad to say about him. He was more than a true friend to the end, but a hero, and a hard working one at that. Thanks for your concerns. *hugs softly*

It made sense to add Furp's memorial to my Favorites because he made a difference in the lives of so many furs. I like to think in my own way in the things I do that I too make a difference. Those of us who at least make the attempt need to stick together. Thanks for the Watch & RIP Furp ** hugs **

He was a very dear friend. One of the most unselfish furs I had ever met.

He was that and so much more. I wish I could come up with the words to tell exactly how I feel deep inside about this tragedy, for inside, I feel peace on top of misery, anger on top of calmness, for Furp needn't ever live in a world of pain, but we still need people like that in the fandom. I hosted a tribute show to Furp and to the ones that I have lost just recently, and the outcome was indeed quite memorable just to be able to talk about the important aspects of what makes a true friendship really stand out. Furp meant a lot to this community of ours, and there are so many people to consider and to remember for the better, and Furp will always be one of them. *hugs* thanks for the watchback, btw. That and the comments onto the departed mean a lot.

I have also seen you quite a lot of times in passing at cons quite often, but never really had the opportunity to settle down long enough to get to know you. Glad to be able to talk with you in FA a while. :) How are things going for you?
