I finally broke down and got a twitter and facebook page today. I don't know why. I don't expect myself to be online much, or at all. Well it's there ready to gather dust.
Twitter is pointless, don't even have one. Facebook is used for keeping track of people and messaging people I want to talk to but don't have their phone-nu.mbers
I feel your pain lol... The only reason I got a facebook, because not all the events in my area make it to fa.
There's still a few people out this way that are butt hurt about the drama last year, and forgot about fa *shrugs*
Well at least it's there. I hardly use mine at all as well, I've never been a type for Facebook at all even for MMO games when they ask for it major guilds etc. For twitter I have to say i use it but i don't tweet out a'lot mostly just re-tweet a'lot of furry events or pictures. Just for some enlightenment.
I only have Facebook. but I very ever go on it. I just have it for having it so if people ask way not I can say I have it so people wont think am life out.
It's nice to have to help keep tabs on people and to see what they're up to (or not up to). But it can be a massive time waster. It does take a bit of effort to fine tune it to the things you want to see and who you would like to see notifications about and whom can see yours (if you ever post that is).
I probably won't unless there is something I need to convey that can only be done through multiple social media forums. But as of now it's nice to know that everyone who follows me can get whatever information they need by looking at this one profile here on FA. I feel like multiple social media profiles for one subject actually makes it harder to keep people informed. Like, a few artists I know post artwork on their facebook, twitter, tumblr, instagram, whatever and I keep looking on their FA (the one place dedicated to furry art) for their postings, but I learn that I'm missing a whole bunch of stuff because they spread their content all over the web on many different websites and it's hard to keep up with it all. It's just so disorganized and inconsistent.
That's why I think it's easier to keep all my content and journals in one place so it's easier for others to keep tabs on it. It's more organized and collective.
And I don't care to hear the argument "But I don't have a furaffinity profile" That's pretty much BS. If you're a part of the fandom or an admirer of furry art then it doesn't makes sense for you to only follow the artwork on non furry sites unless you are deliberately avoiding those sites out of spite for some drama related incident.
Plus if people want to know what I'm up to then they only need to send me a note or a shout. Ask and you shall receive. I'm not one to spill my daily routine all over the web. Allot of people just don't realize that posting every detail of your life online isn't safe yet they do it anyway in hopes that the strangers of the world will love them. Oh well, I'm just an old man in a young dude's body who doesn't know how to get with the times. And posting your furry related stuff on facebook, or twitter, or whatever the kids are on these days makes you vulnerable to scrutiny. Sites like furaffinity are meant to be safe havens for those who want to avoid random strangers who just want to poke fun of you for your 'weird' artwork and all that. I know it's easy to block people on those sites but the point of the furry sites is so those events don't happen in the first place.
I can understand how it would be better to let non furries know about the fandom and how normal and harmless it actually is. But not everyone feels like they should be advocates for the fandom. Some people just want to draw their stuff and be drama free. I know I do.
Blagh, I'm rambling on. Didn't mean to turn this into an entire essay but I guess it's good for people to see it here.
Nah, you've hit it right on the head. FA has a purpose and it should be used for that reason, naturally. FB, for me, is where I can keep up with distant family and friends that don't live nearby. For my local people, I can use it to keep up with events that are going on around town and also I can put up an event that I may be hosting myself. But that's kind of where it stops. If I have something I would like to let others know about, I'll post it. But I can't deal with posting every little detail as that does compromise your own security and is very likely to make you susceptible to identity theft. I tried Twitter, but I can't seem to use it for personal use. I used it to help give updates about the dance tournaments that I would run during gaming conventions. That was the only use I really got out of Twitter though. Instagram... I don't get it because I post pics to FB already. :P
