The only memory I have of this show is maybe waking up and finding the end of it playing on Cartoon Network. It didn't inspire me to watch it.

I think a lot of shows like this are very symptomatic of the time when they were produced, and are an easy way for studios to create something that resonates strongly with pre-existing cultural norms. They're designed to re-affirm a particular set of viewpoints through narrative that the target audience can relate to. It's basically propaganda of a sort.

I would agree, although the big hits at the time were actively pushing back against those cultural norms. (Or, at least pointing them out).

That being said, even if Wait was trying to do that, it failed because 1) it's poorly written, 2) it's wildly inconsistent, and 3) looks like utter crap. Scooby-Doo at least was CONSISTENT in its mediocrity; Wait Till Your Father Gets Home couldn't be half-assed to do that.
