KishuDoll Factoids
☃ ❅ ★ So Merry Christmas One-And-All! ★ ❅ ☃
Fun Facts KishuDoll can tell you about Christmas is
sponsored by a jolly good time!
Fact 1:
Christmas was originally a Pagan festival named Yuletide but it
wasn't to celebrate the birth of an infant, but more to do with
life in the midst of a season associated with death. It was about
feast within the famine, as they would take the remainder of
the stores left over from the first half of the equinoxial half and
feast with it, until the spring equinox.
Fact 2:
The 'Star' that appeared in the night sky is thought to be an
ancient interpretation of Jupiter and Saturn's paths crossing from
the perspective of earth. Thanks to modern-day mathematics, it's
shown that in the year 1 B.C. Jupiter and Saturn came into alignment
and the result was what would look like two stars on top of each other
shining particularly brightly where no star would usually be in the sky.
Fact 3:
Speaking of life in Fact 1, the Christmas tree is also a pagan tradition.
Originating in Germany, the pagans saw that the fir could withstand
the winter's cold and so saw it as a symbol of life, perfect for the
solstice in winter. It became popular in England and America when
Queen Victoria's husband, the German prince Albert, brought the idea
to Buckingham palace after marrying Q.V. - it caught on fast.
Fact 4:
Santa Claus, as you probably know already, was based on St. Nicholas,
an Greek priest who used to throw little sacks of money and food into
the windows of the poor during the time of Christmas as a charitable act.
He was depicted until 1930 as a traditional post-man, dressed in either
blue or green, until 1930 when Coca-Cola redesigned Santa's coat and
the red just caught on.
Fact 5:
As if Santa's iconic red coat wasn't enough, in 1939 the Coca-cola company
also decided to base Santa Claus in the North Pole for certain by exchanging
his equine steeds with a sleigh and reindeer leader, Rudolph. Other names for
him were brainstormed, but they settled with Rudolph after disregarding Rollo
or Reginald. Reggie the Red Nosed Reindeer isn't quite as adorable me thinks?
Fact 6:
Jesus Christ, whilst a debatable subject among atheists, was most likely a
real person although his name might have been something different, more like
Jesse as this is the Hebrew equivalent. Jesus is the Spanish version and was put
into the official Bible by Catholic revolutionaries when the Romans got bored of
their ancient gods. Whoever he was, he was probably more likely born in the year
6 AD and Christian scientists believe, in the summer too. Oh well, nothing like
taking pagan festival ideas and making them a little more mainstream, eh?
