As this was announced to be a DDOS attack on both networks this woke both Sony and Microsoft up to exploits in the networks and consoles themselves as I am not sure you can access XBox Live using a PC (am probably wrong), and PSN can be accessed though Steam of all things. So essentially you had a ton of compromised consoles doing this, as well as infected PCs.
