So there's this patreon thing. I'm thinking about giving it a shot. But im not sure the best way to run it.

What do YOU want from a patreon you donate to?

So it's pretty much Kickstarter, but more focused on comics and music?

More of a never-ending kickstarter. it's croudfunding for continuous projects, like musicians, youtube channels, and comics, with monthly payments and stuff, rather than just a one off thing.

I don't like it myself. Too many artists abusing the system to make them out like premium artists who withhold their best content from regular viewers. Perks are fine, like free access to original res pics or Sam's Club style discounts, or even giving WIP previews, but I've seen stuff they originally posted freely like... the privilege to ask questions? Really?

Yeah, I don't like that myself. That's why I'm just giving a 2 day exclusicivty before it's posted, and the Print quality pages of the comic to patreon supportrs. I'll still put it all out on FA.

Honestly, I'd much rather support you directly with commissions when you're open and available; I'd have no problem giving you money month to month but I think your workload would grow to be insane with how many people would support you and the things you might promise from that! I've seen it happen to a number of people with these kind of funding methods.

Most will offer things in return for the money that give, like getting pics in return, discounts from now on or something along those lines. It's not a very good idea to open one up without giving things in return, mind you. While on that topic, don't think this will pay your bills, there's a fuck ton of people doing this as well, so you may not get a lot from it, if at all.

A regular flow of artwork would be neat, things like WIP sketches and projects you work on but never get around to posting because you decided to not finish them etc... Maybe sneak previews of upcoming magazine projects? etc...

Basically just more and regular content from you is all I'm after.

I don't like Patron because it feels like I'm signing away my soul for something (whether or not that actually be the case), whereas with giving money directly for a commission I feel more like I'm buying a product.
