Disclaimer: If you don't care about all the personal fluff that I share, skip to the bottom to see the TL;DR version. It's important!!!!!!!
I dunno you guys, I have been having this absolute ROLLER COASTER OF EMOTIONS thing going on ever since Christmas... >.<
One second, I'm utterly depressed and ready to give up on life
and the next second, I'm like YEAH LET'S DO THIS I CAN DO ANYTHING WOOOOO
So I decided to try and rope in that can-do attitude, and make myself DETERMINED enough to make a plan of action. But I still feel pretty meh.... even though I'm trying really hard not to. :<
I didn't make any new year's resolutions. I never follow them anyway. Instead, I'm just looking at the year as a whole and seeing that it's a blank canvas, it's ready to be filled with memories, triumphs and failures, and with any luck, some achieved dreams.
I don't have to tell you what my ultimate dream is........I mean gawd, I never shut up about it. AmIright?
Ok ok if you REALLY don't know.... it's to quit my job and make a living off of my art.
So, most people probably don't know this about me, or maybe you have figured it out all on your own, but I am TERRIBLE at organization. I mean, in everything. My art area is a mess (but *I* know where everything is...), I tend to throw things in piles, and we have multiple "junk baskets" in our house. That aside, I have never been very good at keeping my personal tasks organized. Really bearing it all here..... But there was a time when I was living by myself and although I made enough money to make ends meet, I literally would FORGET to pay my bills. *facepalm* Yeah, I know. It's actually really embarrassing. But that's how super duper UN-organized I am.
HOWEVER I just recently discovered the most awesomest tool that I am actually using and LOVING for keeping myself organized. It's called Trello and it's free to use. If you like making lists, or checklists within lists, or different sections of to-do lists, I highly recommend checking this out!!! Seriously, like, before, when I wanted to make a to-do list for something, I would just email myself a list of stuff.....and then guess what I'd do........ Yeah, that's right. I would never even read the dang email. >.<
I've had this Trello thing for a couple of months now but literally only in the last like two or three days did I actually sit down and figure out what to do with it. Once I discovered exactly what I could do with it, I was so totally hooked!! I've made commission lists, personal art lists, even a list of steps for achieving my dream. Daaaaang it feels awesome.
Ok this is not an advertisement for Trello and I'm not getting paid to say these things. My point is, I feel a little--ok no, I feel a LOT better about my organization now. I am loving my new layout of my commission list, and it's not only more interesting than keeping a journal or a spreadsheet, but it's way easier to see everything at a glance!
TL;DR
I am no longer using my journal to-do list for commission updates. You can view my new to-do list, complete with steps, WIP's, and more by going HERE!
If you have a Trello account (and they're free), you can Star or Subscribe to my board. This isn't a "following" site like so many of us are used to. You cannot simply follow me and see my updates in a long activity feed....... No, you actually have to go to my board to see everything.
This board is really for my own personal organization, but I'm sharing it with you, my commissioners, to keep you informed with the most current up to date status of your piece. :) If you have questions about my commissions board or any Trello related questions, feel free to ask ^^
Also, it would really mean a lot to me if my FA watchers would visit my poll HERE and vote. I really appreciate it!! <3
Ok back to personal fluff.........
Ugh I really just can't wait to finish the things I need to finish so I can start taking commissions again..... I am really interested to see how quickly I can fill my slots since it's been so long since commissions opened :/ And I'm so back and forth on my emotions it's beginning to become annoying.... I want to get off this roller coaster now, mmkay?? -_-
Honestly, I don't know what will make me happy. Will quitting my job and doing art for a living really make me happy....? Or am I just telling myself that to make myself feel like something better is out there? I always think "gee, if I had 8 hours a day to do art I would get SO much more done and be able to take SO many more commissions!"........I'm really really hoping that's true and I'm not lying to myself. The advice I was recently given was that sometimes, even though it's scary, you just have to take that leap of faith. Yeah, it's gonna be stressful, it's gonna be hard, and most of all it's gonna be time consuming, but all of that will eventually pass. I think I'm growing closer and closer to that leap of faith.... I think I just need to take a few test jumps before I attempt the big plunge.
Either way, DETERMINATION STILL INTENSIFIES
and I really just wanna make great art and have it be appreciated and maybe learn a little something and make a few bucks along the way.
Thanks for listening <3
