I know exactly how you feel! My bf's Kyras character is a species he made called a "Wolfsune" To me it's just a type of wolf that has whiskers and two tails and is always black,grey, or white varients. Nothing more than a wolf type creature, but I never say anything to him.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Oh hey i know of them. Yeah i remember that whole thing going down. My friend Jude gets called a fucking angel dragon all the time too and its bullshit. They have to start putting "im not an angel dragon" on their pictures of their fursona.

Problem is that some people will make, let say... Sparkledogs, which would be canines that are colorful and sparkly and be like "TIS IS MY CLOSED SPECIES. YOU CAN'T MAKE ONE."
It's a freaking off-colored dog with sparkles...

Or the other day, I saw someone that bought one of those base packs to make adoptables and with the options provided in the PSD, they made a "closed species". Out of something that EVERYONE can do with the same base pack. It's quite ridiculous really.

I think I only have a handful of closed species, but those ones are a tiny bit more unique than just Sparkledog-esque.
Which is what caught my eye in the first place.

Yeah, when they look very unique and look unlikely to be copied, I say it's fine really. But some really place "copyrights" on ridiculously simple species. x.x

And it's not any better in the MLP fandom. Someone I'm following on Tumblr made specific changelings (creatures just like my icon, they're canon to the show) except they have glowing eyes, blood and some other glowing parts and they got angry at people for copying that and the "ponies converted to a changeling" concept. Like what. c.c

you'd think a species needs a certain amount of animals actually being it to call it one. Does that make any sense? xD

Also.. Why shouldn't you be proud of people wanting to be the species YOU designed? (As long as they credit you for it of course)

I agree completely-It's highly irritating. I understand if it's YOUR OC you made up, but when you're taking credit for something a five year old could think of and yelling at anyone else who makes something even remotly close to your "design", it's irritating as all hell.

My fursona's species, Fluff Dragon, is something I created, but is less design based and more based around then information, because it's not at all very creative. If someone'd like to make a Fluff Dragon character based on the info I provided about them, sure I'd like credit but I won't flip my shit if I she something close to a fluffy dragon. I could never in a million years even ATTEMPT to take credit for that idea.

If you want to label something a closed species, do it by all means. Just don't get mad if you see another 'sona like yours when you spent five minutes thinking before you just pulled it out of your ass.
